Comment:
Professor Shipton obviously really loves everything about anthropology. This semester was all online, and many times he got carried away just talking from topic to topic. It can be a little much at times, but he's easygoing. There is a reading every week, but the assignment is pretty easy. There are two projects that are fairly open ended.

Professor Shipton is the most dedicated and caring Professor ever. I learned so much in this course and Professor Shipton is so well-traveled, much of it was from his own personal experience. His love for teaching and for his students is SO admirable. I would recommend any of Professor Shipton's classes to anyone, I'd be lucky to have him again!

Shipton is probably the sweetest professor I've ever had. He is so positive and energetic every class. There is a lot of reading but he's very understanding and laidback. I would recommend any of my friends to take any of his classes just because of how kind of a person he is. He shares the coolest stories about things he's experienced. Love him!

Prof Shipton is so enthusiastic, eccentric, and full of wisdom and kindness. He is extremely knowledgeable in the subject and if you have a question, you can be prepared for a 15-minute response that answers questions you didn't even know you had. He is extremely lenient and forgiving and has weekly assignments on readings and 2 projects.

Really great and engaging professor. Can go on a little bit, but that's only to show how much passion he has for the topics he is engaging with, and his breadth of knowledge is truly remarkable. Pretty much any sector of Africa you wish to learn about can be experienced through taking a class with Shipton.

Prof. Shipton is a gem. He is one of the best professors I have ever had, despite the negative reviews. If you want to learn about Africa, please take him. The assignments are flexible and his lectures are always enjoyable. The only downside is he does not give grades, but his personality makes up for it.

Professor Shipton is quirky and very nice. There wasn't that much work for this class, but I did learn a lot from the weekly readings. The other portion of your grade is based on participation and two projects. Overall, enjoyed taking the class with him.

Prof. Shipton is an outstanding, eccentric professor. Extremely well educated, well read, and well traveled, he seems to have lived a dozen lives and can't wait to share his knowledge with students. His quirky, unconventional thinking strategies encourage students to reach great heights. IF you have the opportunity, take his class.

He is one of the most thoughtful, caring, and intellectual professors I have ever had at BU. He is unique in that he actually cares about his students, and is always happy to meet with them. His exams are extremely fair; anyone who thinks otherwise or is willing to complain to this length has clearly not studied sufficiently. Their fault, not his.

One of the most disorganized professors that I have EVER had at BU. He told us that he wouldn't have our papers graded until next semester. He tells you the essay topics in advance but that's usually only half of the test. The other half of the tests he literally pulls out of his butt. His lectures are unorganized and off-topic. DON'T TAKE IT.

Engaging and fun to listen to... but probably legally insane. Exams were easy, save the short answer identifications. WAY too much reading... 14+ books!

i absolutely love this man! he is so passionate, so energetic, so brilliant. the two-pagers he assigns weekly are easy + the study questions he provides really help with the exams, so don't let the workload discourage you from taking his class. he really makes you think + this class introduces you to so many new concepts + ways of thinking. LOVE.

Quite possibly the strangest, nerdiest man I have ever met. He is great at starting discussions that really help with understanding the material but he will always tell you that some tribe that you have never heard of does things better.

He's bloody well nuts...focuses on the most minor, unimportant details of language...but very, very, very enthusiastic and willing to take a lot of crap, so not all bad. Lots of writting, but it was very easy, I got a B+ and never read any of the books.
