He is an amazing Organic Chemist and a decent lecturer. Horribly difficult tests with averages usually in 30's or 40's, but with a generous curve. Helpful during office hours, but expects a lot.

One of my best ochem professor! Can be demotivating sometimes but still has so much knowledge and passion on the subject.

Dr Kurth is not a bad instructure. The subject of OChem is just hard. You really need to put in the extra time to get the material.

Kurth makes tests so that the average is a 30%. This professor is really hard because of his teaching style and his expectations are very high. He is upfront with you about it though, telling you how many of the class will fail. Only take if you have to, and if you do, go to office hours! He gives out hints about whats on the test there!

Absolute terrible teacher. Just goes up there and writes reactions and you're must memorize all 90 of them for the tests. The first midterm average was a 31%, so everyone was doing poorly together. Also, multiple times during the class he would make fun of the students and remark how dumb we all are. About a third of the class dropped

No more quizzes. Provides LOTS of practice with answer keys. Loves spectroscopy. REALLY difficult exams with a generous curve. Unhelpful lecture. Self learning. From my experience, all chem professors are bad. He is one of the "okayish" one because of the curve!

Comment:
Lectures highly tangential. Critical of students who ask questions. Practice materials usually have inaccurate keys. Often self-contradictory. Office hours the same. Hard tests with a brutal curve, on material not covered by him or the book. He no longer has quizzes. Occasionally refuses to post any practice material until someone literally begs.

He is a terrible professor, but a great person and a knowledgeable organic chemists. Tells a lot of his personal stories and teaches somewhat occasionally. His office hours are definitely more helpful, but basically a self-teach class. Class average on the first midterm was a 40-ish %. This 3 units class is more like a 6 unit class.

One of my favorite professors at UCD. Ochem isn't about memorization, and he defiantly shows it. Gives multiple quizzes to help lackeys maintain their grade. Actual exams are difficult, but MORE then generous curve. EXTREMELY helpful during office hours, the nicest guy to talk to during OH. He helps A LOT, you just have to put in the effort.

He was intimidating the first part of the quarter, but by the end became a lot friendlier. High expectations in class, expect a lot of self study. Provides plenty of practice problems. OH extremely helpful, and he really explains the chemistry there. Willing to help and be available. Easy to understand and speaks clearly to the class(not the board)

Professor Kurth was a tough one, no joke. Exams were difficult like no other. Quizzes, however, saved my grade. Reading the book is a pain, but worth it in the end. Take him if you want to learn how to study for school. If I could, I would take another class from him, but only if my grade didn't depend on it. Super stressful. Overall, great!

Kurth will challenge you to learn the material with nearly daily quizzes and incredibly difficult exams. But if you actually work at it, he'll pass you no matter what. Super helpful at OH, and willing to stay after class and talk, he may seem like a strict professor that fails lots of people, but he isn't.

Kurth is a professor that forces you to learn the material on your own. But he forces this by giving quizzes at the beginning of nearly every class. This class is much different than the usual sit back and listen to the professor lecture, you have to be willing to find the answers yourself. Ochem is no walk in the park, and Kurth teaches you that.

Comes off as somewhat aggressive, but overall is a very good professor. While his exams are exceptionally hard, the curve is amazing. You will be expected to read from the book before lecture to be ready for the nearly daily quizzes, but you will learn tons. A very fair professor. Would recommend.

Seems like a jerk, but he's fair and a pretty nice guy. Going to OH is extremely helpful, and even though the exam curves are low, you can definitely score at least a C in the class. Frequent quizzes on chapters he expects you to read beforehand, so a lot of self-study. First class that made me think I was actually taking a college course.

You don't learn anything from him at all. Just hope that you are exceptionally smart compared to the rest of your class and ride the curve to an A or B. Otherwise if you are in the other ~60% or so you will probably get a C. This class truly shows you as kurth put it once in class "most of you are just not bright lightbulbs while some are."

Nice guy, but WORST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD. Blames all of his shortcomings as a professor on the students, saying his students are "idiots". Literally will teach an entire chapter of reactions by saying "all of these reactions seem straight forward to me, so I dont really have anything to say." Tests are impossible, and almost daily quizzes. AVOID

Awful professor. Doesn't care about teaching, doesn't write on the board, refuses to put on microphone so you can hear. Nearly daily quizzes that are trivial information from textbook. Tests are EXTREMELY hard, averages are below 30%. You will NOT learn anything from him, you have to learn EVERYTHING on your own. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

Doesn't know how to teach or care to. Wastes your class time to ramble about his life, WE DONT CARE. U wont be taught ochem, its a discussion not a class. No notes unless requested-"doesnt like getting chalky"-boohoo, TEACH. Tests are extremely diffclt& not from book, quizzes rushed. Thinks class is work ethic 101, not ochem. learned NADA from him.
