Comment:
Markowitz lectures exclusively based on the book and if you don't read you WILL fail the class. She is unorganized, extremely subjective, and bases all of her information solely on her own personal work. Basically turns an intro to anthro course into an intro to her work.

Comment:
Markowitz is nice and cares about her students, but I really disliked the class. It was disorganized, subjective, and too many of the students were loud & distracting. There were reading quizzes EVERY CLASS and she only dropped 2, I felt like I was in High School. Tests were hard and material was disorganized so it was hard to study.

Dr. Markowitz is incredible. She offers great help with papers (if you need support writing academic essay's, she's the right prof for you). Her lectures are thorough and thought-provoking. She's very knowledgable about food and culture, specifically in the Andes. Highly recommend.

At the time, this class was crosslisted with LALS 321. One of the hardest, subjective teachers I've had at UofL. Markowitz has two tests (one is worth a mere 18 points and the other 22 points), gives quizzes every day, gives disjointed lectures and refuses to put her powerpoints on Blackboard or make comprehensible study guides. PLEASE AVOID!!!!!

I find her voice distracting. She can ramble in class & turns all the lights off for her power point so it makes me really tired. Her tests are incredibly hard so do good on the quizzes, which are easy as long as you do the reading.

Very kind lady, but not the best speaker- she tends to ramble a bit in lectures. But she's quite knowledgeable and happy to help her students.

Markowitz is really interested in the subjects she teaches. She really wants students to get involved in the learning process, and you will learn a lot. If you dont like reading, dont take the class; quizzes everyday. She can be very subjective about what she wants,& at times she didnt give us enough time to answer questions. Take her, youll learn!

I love anthropology, but her class made me sleepy. The tests were relatively easy, but a lot of times the subject matter on the tests was fairly subjective so I had to answer the questions based upon what I thought her opinion would be.

Lots of reading but very interesting class: Food and the Body Politic. Cool field trips and lots of interesting facts about waht we put into our bodys and where it comes from. You will never look at food the same way.
