I like Dr. Petreman. You have homework most nights out of a book but they aren't for a grade. There are 4 tests, that's all he grades on. He goes by the book so definitely make sure you have one (buy online ahead of time for cheapest price). The tests are about culture and grammar. I'm good at Spanish but it's an easy class if you study a little.

If you have a hard time understanding or learning Spanish do not take his class. He speaks very fast and doesn't clarify if you didn't understand. He doesn't really have lesson plans, he just reads from the book the entire class time and expects you to get it. He starts class late aves class early so you can't ask questions before/after class.

In this particular class hes been bad. I study, have a tutor, yet I still failed. All he does is go over a lesson once. And will only go back to it near exam time. The rest is either read stories from the book or watch a movie.

Dr Petreman is the best - enthusiastic, well organized, dedicated to teaching the language and it literature, funny. I hope to have him again in Fall semester. Within one or two days he knew the name of every student (of 22) in the class. Set a good example on how to teach.

We had a vocabulary quiz after every two chapters so we would have over 100 words but only 15 were on the quiz so that was frustrating but class was pretty much just conversations! We discussed only hot topics so everyone would say if they agreed or disagreed and we ask had to say why. It was very stimulating and challenging but it helped me a lot!

I had him for my first SPN convo class and my speaking has improved significantly. He's very easy-going and fun, but often shows up to class late. There are 2 formal presentations, practice and have eye-contact with the class and it's an A. It's best to speak with him in person, emails may never be answered. Participation is key.

Dr. Petreman is clear and concise in his teachings. Demanding participation, he exemplifies the modern approach to teaching foreign languages: immersion. Armed with a wealth (if not nearly infinite amount) of knowledge about Hispanic history, culture, and geography, he aims to bring you closer to the language and peek your interest evermore.

Great class and a great professor. If you don't pay attention and don't participate, you won't pass. If you aren't interested in the subject, don't take the class. I loved the class and am excited to take more of his classes in the future. He's easy to understand and doesn't mind explaining things in English if you really don't understand.

He's ok. Class is fairly easy. He's more focused on teaching you a political agenda than spanish and topics are often depressing (abortion, drugs, suicide etc.) There is almost no homework except for vocab and 3 presentations. He doesn't make you want to talk at all!

I loved this class. Most of the grade is based on class participation as well as a couple of speeches that are very manageable if you prepare. He did have vocab quizzes which required studying but the class was not a ton of work and was pretty entertaining.

I took him for summer 101 and 102. He was an amazing teacher. He was very encouraging though be prepared to work and study a lot for his class. I loved his stories and he made it very easy and enjoyable to learn the spanish language. If you really want to learn the language and not just memorize the charts I highly recomend this instructor.

Dr. Petreman is an opinionated teacher who expects you to retain everything you have had in previous Spanish classes. He claims to know who wrote what on the comments section of the evaluation sheets (and not care since he has tenure.) He will expect great things of you and you will work harder expecting them of yourself as well.

Extremely challenging class. Excellent teacher but very opinionated on outside class goings on-politics, et al. (to the point of making one feel uncomfortable if contrary in opinion).
