Tom, before I go on, is a great professor for those that care enough to meet him halfway as a student with some kind of desire to learn. He will improve your writing. That being said, he can be a little unclear at times, but speak up, he is there for you. Please note that is PHD is in Stealth Ops and that he could kill you with his eyebrows.

Tom rocks - Yeah he's cranky at times but he's the only prof who would meet me regularly for coffee downtown and he always put in the time IF you put in the effort. If you slacked, he wouldn't give you the time of day. We need more folks like him.

My only memory of Tom is that no matter what the topic of our seminar was, he would bring up why car magazines have girls in bikinis on the cover and his comparison of Jaws to Ibsen.

I don't know what you Core program weenies are snappin' about! I took Fiction/NonFiction with Foote and Shopper when I was a freshman at Evergreen, and I agree that Tom IS critical at times. But that's the only way one's writing improves. Foote rocks! ^.^

Tom likes to tell stories, lots of them. He'll probably tell the same ones again and again, as he did with me. These stories don't have much to do with what's happening in class, but that doesn't stop him. Tom likes falconry, and yeah, he is pretty deaf.
