Attending class is necessary. He gets you into taking good notes because he rarely writes on the board. If you pay attention he gives hints to what's important enough to be on the exam, so far nothing has struck me as an unfair question on an exam. He knows his stuff and takes the class seriously so just show up, pay attention, and you'll do fine.

Does not convey material clearly. His expectations for examinations are murky at best. You have no clue what talk of rainforest animals has to do with social theory. Do not reccommend.

DO NOT take this course with this prof. He is not only the worst prof I have ever had, but he is the most ignorant and rude person I have ever met. Coming from someone who does well in school, he makes learning hell and expects way too much with no guidance. His notes do not make any sense and the readings might as well be in another language!

Prof.Riggins, is one of top profs in department of sociology. He is really helpful, he don't give you assignment distract your attention from study and other courses and his courses. But the remarkable thing for him is fair.If you got a low mark in his course, he will give another exam in order to reach passing.A lot of things but no space.

Great professor and a very nice person. He may seem intimidating at first but relax and listen and you will realize he is completely harmless. He really is a great person and cares very much about students and his teaching. Highly recommend if you are serious about sociology as a discipline.

I have taken three courses with this man and he is my absolute favourite prof, he would do anything to help out his students and as long as you go to class and take amazing notes you'll do great. He's probably the most intelligent person I've met and he's also quite funny.

Internship, there were only a handful of classes with him. I dont really know what to say about him. He can appear off-putting but I think he wants to help who he can. The course outline was pretty vague as to what he was looking for but I came out of it with an A so as long as he sees you making an effort, you will do fine. The internship is great.

He seems kind of scary, but he knows his stuff. I would argue that he's one of the most reasoned and intelligent professors at MUN. I also thoroughly enjoy his dry sense of humour. Take one of his classes, you'll learn a lot!

Dr. Riggins has been very helpful to me and on more than one occasion has been open to discussing any questions, concerns or requests I've had. He's a great prof. and very reasonable. I've had him for three courses and liked each one. If you're interested in media, minority issues or cultural studies definitely check out one of his courses.

Dr. Riggins was an excellent teacher, supervisor, and motivator. He initially helped me start the graduate program and then through his continued mentoring and guidance offered me an opportunity to complete the Masters of Arts programme. I am very grateful and ever indebted for all his continued help, support, editing, and creative insight.

Dr. Riggins is a great prof. He does give three essays in the exam as someone else mentioned, but he grades them fairly knowong that time is short to write them. Very accomodating when asked for help or extensions. He may seem slightly aloof or unapproachable, but that is not the case at all.

fair if you are prepared to do the work .he won't hold your hand through the course but is extremely good about helping student who ask for it. He gives his students respect when they show they deserve it and if you are not a total slack off he is extremely helpful and forgiving.
