Amazing guy, awful prof. Doesn't get that a lot of us are non-majors filling a req. & aren't science people. Labs have 0 instructions; he believes in "experimental learning." Only gives vague hints or asks questions to try and get you thinking. Whole class made 60s and 70s on the final. Cares and wants you to pass, but makes you really earn it.

I actually enjoyed the class because I love physics, but i wouldn't recommend taking this as your Lab Science if you aren't a STEM major. The labs are hard because he doesn't give you any instructions and you have to figure it out on your own. There's also a lot of homework and quizzes and labs every class. Das was kinda rude and arrogant.

While he is a very knowledgeable and smart man, he can be very condescending at times, which I feel makes it difficult for students to approach him. Also, I feel that he is often out of sync with what students are learning for HW. You can spend 3-4 hours taking notes on the reading, and only 1/3 of the information will be on his daily quizzes.

Really smart dude but so unhelpful it has caused great amounts of stress to a ton of students. He comes off as condescending and is very hard to see eye to eye with. This is a class I was excited to start and a topic I enjoy learning about, Das has just about ruined physics for me. He goes at his pace and it just seems like he doesn't care at all.

The class requires a lot of work. Every class we had a quiz and homework, lab and prelab due. Das is a great professor but really disorganized. Classes are based on the chapter due and whatever we thought was interesting and worth discussing. There are two exams (cumulative) and a final worth 30%.

Brilliant guy who can answer questions about anything and is very credible. Expect a three question easy quiz and hw that takes 60 minutes each class. Lab is built in to class (saves you time) and is almost every class. He will not answer questions; you need to figure things out. If you're okay with never knowing the answer, it's a good class.

Science is definitely not my thing, but I find this class to be very interesting. It is A LOT of outside of class work for a 110 class, but if you do it all it pays off. I've had no trouble on the quizzes or tests and would take again. He's definitely the best and makes lectures interesting.

Passionate, enthusiastic but weird. If the environment, physics or conservation are your interests, you will enjoy the topics but otherwise not. Das assigns homework questions/readings and prelabs along with 3 major tests. HWs/prelabs aren't bad but need to stay on top of it all. He can be very confusing and therefore frustrating sometimes.

Incredible teaching style and his passion for the subject inspired our class to have great discussions. It was a very hands on class and required for the student to actually think about the procedures and therefore it allowed me to retain the class information much more effectively. Has infinite knowledge of the world and loves discussions, great gu

Das is a great guy. This being said, he is very vague on assignments and what he expects out of his students. Labs come with almost no instruction, but he is very willing to help guide you towards an answer. I felt underprepared for tests. Homework is thru Blackboard. He's very passionate about his work. Don't take if you like instructions.

Really great teacher. His enthusiasm for the topic adds to the experience of the class. He explains the course material clearly. This was an upper level class so there was a lot of work but it was very rewarding and worthwhile.

Great professor. He really knows the material and helps students to think critically about issues surrounding energy and the environment. A great professor for not-so-science-inclined students.

Great professor. If you enjoy physics or just science in general he will spark your interest greatly. The negative posts are most likely from those who skipped a lot and got a bad grade or those who just have no intellectual curiosity. Highly recommend.

Yes, there is textbook use every night. Also, this is a college course. Also, he's going to teach you, as if he were a teacher or something. Fascinating, no? Really not a bad guy. The class might seem a bit obscure, but just talk to him during office hours or e-mail him questions--he really is there to help/teach you and he will do his job.

Quiz everyday which involves reading everynight. He uses the worst program ever invented for homework. Not helpful at all and took everything I learned junior and senior year and destroyed it. Don't take if at all possible.

Had him a while back... word to the wise. This guy loves to impress the students. Wich is really sad since he must have nobody else to impress. Tell him he is great. Get an A. Its a joke but worth all the your so great Dr. D. I never read the book and pulled my A this way. It can work for you too.
