Comment:
In my opinion, Prof. Coker was a great lecturer. If you actually pay attention in, you'll understand the concepts. Tests weren't easy, but you get used to it. He made sure the pace of the class was manageable, and sometimes went off of Dan Dill's slides, but that was for sure for the better.

Coker is a good professor for CH 102, he's a wonderful guy, pretty funny at times, and he at least explains the tougher concepts of CH 102 pretty well. I'd say the only problems are that he mumbles sometimes and that we were behind other CH102 sections which is probably what made the class easier this year.

Professor Coker is a great person but, sadly, not a great teacher. At least for CH102. He seems to not have everything down about how to get the attention of his students because his lectures are A BORE. He is a very smart man, just wouldn't recommend him for CH102 lecture.

Very animated in lecture, which keeps things interesting. His derivations are pretty clear and does a good job explaining concepts; however, he doesn't really do very many examples relevant to the homeworks and exams, so you're often left figuring out the applications of the material on your own.

Comment:
Professor Coker is an awful teacher. He is so hyper and all over the place that it becomes very difficult to understand exactly what he's talking about. Material is not presented in an efficient manner, and the problems he writes on the board are nothing like those of the exams. He was absent 6 weeks of the semester and a TF had to take over.

He's a nice guy and tries to make the lectures fun but he is so unorganized and impossible to follow. He doesn't really teach the material, he just does problems on the board. His handwritting is hard to read and he skips around topics. Very frustrating to listen too. Nice guy but doesn't know how to teach a big lecture at all

A very animated teacher. Walks around the room a lot. Very messy handwriting on the chalkboard. Makes a lot of mistakes while teaching. Very fun teacher to be in lecture with. Explanations are a little confusing but he is the best of the lecture teachers.

I can't understand these positive ratings; his lectures confused me beyond belief. He runs up and down the aisles and from and to the board. While I admire his passion, I almost feel like it gets in the way of him clearly explaining the material. This class literally crushed my spirit and made me drop out of pre-med.

He is a very smart professor but never explains things clearly...makes things look more complicated than they acually are. If you took a class with him, don't bothers attending lectures. Study from the book and go to discussion and you should get a B+ easily if you do that.

Well I love chemistry. It's no lie, but prf. Coker was a great teacher, especially when it came to the quantum mechanics portion, the most difficult part of the class. He's really funny and a nice guy. I wish I had him for my prof next semester in 102. The class is not too difficult if you actually do the homework and readings and go to office hrs.

Honestly, one rater can really ruin a professor's reputation. His methods are bit unorthodox, but he's still a brilliant chemist who can clearly convey the message to his students about 85% of the time. Compared to Dan Dill, Coker is the greatest professor ever. The guy is also hillarious. Just do the reading and practice problems.

Hilarious. Sometimes helpful, but overall, not all that useful. Read the handouts and online pdfs that they assign. Tests are easy if you understand the material, but most people seem to do poorly on them for some strange reason. Also, the textbook is aweful.

In Lecture he is a scatterbrain. Very energetic. Will embarrass you if you sleep. Tries explaining too much too quickly at times, and since he is not very organized, he can be hard to follow. Go to discussions and you should be fine.

Actually, the concepts tested on exams are very much emphasized in his lectures - more so than with the other profs. Extremely interesting, brilliant professor. He tells you exactly what you should know for the exams. However, it's up to you to manipulate these tools in order to understand the concepts. He made a challenging course enjoyable.

He's a really cool guy. I like all of his little stories when he goes off on tangents. For everyone who says this class is hard, just read the book. The textbook reads like it's made for kids in high school is so straight forward it's ridiculous. . As long as you do that, you don't even need to pay attention in lecture

The exams are the same for CH101 regardless of the professor. Professor Coker, however, can become unclear at times and the concepts tested on the exams are not the concepts emphasized in class.

agree with the spastic comments and the idea that he thinks we all automatically should have complete knowledge of all this stuff
