I'm not one to typically complain about a professor, but this lady is awful. Completely subjective, offers no help at all, and is absolutely outdated in her thinking. Also she grades on a (deflated) 4.0 scale for your final grade so if you get a B+ on something, expect to get 6.6 out of 8 points...aka an 82.5%. Avoid her class at all costs.

She's nice, and in her day I bet she was good in the ad world, but her subjective grading is only exceeded by her antiquated views on the world today. She's a great source for advertising 30 years ago, NOT TODAY. She's in no position to grade creative work, because every time you think something's good, it's bad, and vice versa. Too unpredictable.

Horrible. She obviously hasn't been in the industry for 20+ years, because her examples and projects are dated. You learn nothing about creative, only that she doesn't think sex ads are appropriate. You don't even use computers. I was looking forward to this class, but with her it was a complete waste of time.

As an art director wanting to learn more about writing I was very satisfied with her curriculum and teaching method. I thought she was clear, knowledgeable and had interesting stories to illustrate her points. She encouraged class discussions which were lively and fun. I'd certainly enjoy taking another class with her.

By the way, she claims she used to work at Ogilvy, which is probably true. I have a friend who is an intern there now and apparently when she worked there she was a NOBODY! She acts like she was this big shot, but she doesn't know anything and is now passing her mediocre advice to her students. It's excruciating. You can't be narrow-minded in adv!

Everything people have posted about Parenio is completely true. This woman LOVEEEEEEES to hear herself talk, is completely unaware of advertising today, and her grades are ridiculously subjective and harsh. She never explains her assignments. She encourages NO classroom discussion; basically for an hour and a half she yaps on and on and on. BEWARE!

awful professor...her teaching is so boring (lectures that last an hour and 1/2 are impossible with her) and she's completely unclear about what she wants. Every grade is subject to her tastes which are dated to the 70's and 80's when she was in the industry. At the end of the course, she will be tough and not round up anyone's grade.

One of the worst professors I have ever had. She is very unclear about what she wants and was very mean in grading. She emphasized on copy much more than art direction. If you're an artist, avoid her class.

TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!! Shes a really bad professor and I don't think SHE even knows what she wants out of your ads. She'll tell you she loves it when you show it to her, and then you'll get it back with a big, fat C on it. I doubt she ever even spent time in the industry.

When it comes to advertising, Professor Parenio has absolutely no clue what she's talking about. Her grading is incredibly inconsistant, her lectures are far too specific (she teaches only what SHE has experienced, and she teaches it like it's the gospel) & so boring that you spend the class wondering what the heck is in her mug. HORRIBLE professor

no sympathy for non-creatives only taking this class bc they have to. she grades in relation to everyone else, so watch out if you're assigned to work with non-creatives. you have no clue what she wants, and you can't revise anything. totally a shot in the dark: you can get a A on one project and a C on another. nice woman though.

She is a wonderful, dedicated professor. I like how she took an interest in all of her students. My only concern is that she's been out of the biz so long that I wonder how current she can be.

Friendly. Helpful. But this class was one of the most useless I've taken. The semester could have been compacted into a workshop. Prof. seems disinterested. Take Delamarter - harder but at least you'll come out with a half-decent portfolio. If you're account and don't mind fluff, go for Parenio.

Class can be boring at times and it's difficult to get above a B on the projects. She brings a lot of real world experience to the class (she used to be a copywriter) but knows little about design. Overall it's an ok class.

I was never bored in class. The text is supplemental but interesting. If you don't like to have your partners assigned then skip this course. Also, her examples are a bit outdated for radio and tv. She requires lots of workshops but they were very helpful for the assignments.

Parenio is a great prof. & has a great handle on the world of Ad. She's witty & gives good advice. She doesn't assign a textbook, just a good novel about ad, and even though it's a good read, it's not necessary to succeed in class. Wonderful. I'd take her class again any day. I love it.
