I learned more about the English language in 2 classes than I did throughout the 8 years of my undergrad and MA in English. What I learned from him has helped professionalize my degrees--to the extent that I'm currently making 6 figures as a business writer. If you can still take his class, pay attention to every little detail. You won't regret it.

Loved this prof as a person, however he was very difficult to write essays for. He goes against everything you've ever learned about essay writing and you can never read his feedback on your papers. He's quiet and British and is sometimes hard to hear and understand during lectures. I loved the topics in this course and he chose some great material

I actually love this prof! I had him for both ENG 389 and ENG 300. I definitely would recommend attending class, as he does not post notes to eClass. He has sort of an old-school lecturing style, but as long as you listen and take notes, it's not a problem. willing to help and a very fair marker. He wants his students to succeed. Pretty funny too!

Very entertaining, even when teaching dull content. Dry sense of humor, which just adds to his class. Very little homework, but take good notes for his exams. Always willing to clarify, or even just chat in the hall. Great prof.

Christopher Gordon-Craig is a nice guy, happy to help, and understanding when it comes to lateness; however, you will only learn his way of looking at things. It was like going back to elementary school and regurgitating what the teacher says for the grade. I got a better grade on a terrible paper than an insightful one. Not recommended.

He reminds me of what Professor Binns would have been like before he died, although his stories are entertaining. 2 essays and a final, he has an English public school accent, and he "putters on gently," which can mean he talks about a bunch of history that you may not need to know, but pay attention to details, pay attention in class, you're fine

Fantastic professor. Very dry sense of humor and a clear idea of what he expects on essays and makes this clear to his students. The class was so stuffed with information that it is impossible to miss a class. You have to expect this though with a topic like "History of the English Language". Great prof.

He is such a nice fellow. Very, very knowledgeable in course material and willing to provide extra help if need be. If you rely on a prof to provide notes, don't take his class. Provides none. Very old-school gentleman. Average marker. Lectures at times may seem dull but they are vital to attend. Genius in his field of study.

Thought it would be a fun option, but found it a bit dull. He was a medium marker, standard two essays and a final.

Absolutely amazing. Really good lectures, not too rushed but move along at a good speed. Did an excellent job reaching into all aspects of the course and covering the material. Hard marker though, you do need to actually be prepared to do the papers. British accent too.

Awesome prof! Good overview of a History of the English language/England. Likes to interject funny little anecdotes, side stories, life experiences, etc. into his lectures. Takes it easy in class, which makes his lectures pretty laid back and enjoyable. If your interested in Tolkien, make sure to talk to him: he knows A LOT about Tolkien!

Fantastic! Very helpful if you make an effort in his class. Likes discussion a lot. It's beneficial to know a general history of England or it may be difficult to follow along. No midterms! He cares about the subject and cares about the students, he's definitely my favourite prof!

Brilliant prof, knowledgeable and informative, and sharp as a tack. Expects a lot but MORE than delivers for his students; as some others have noted on here, he can be a bit intimidating, but he's actually very kind and loves to teach.

Wicked professor. Very intimdating at first, but once you get to know him he is really nice and cares if you know/learn the material. I was late for a lot of classes and he seemed concerned about it. Very Funny guy. Likes if you participate in class. Very lenient with deadlines. Unbelieveably helpful with essays. Would recommend him to anyone.

He is intimidating at first, but once you get to know him, he is quite alright. Very interesting material, and he knows what he is talking about. I would recommend this class. It is true that the first essay mark will match the second, but if you put the effort in you can get a good mark. Be sure to show up for class; he remembers faces.
