Comment:
2 assignments a week, a complex network analysis due at the middle of the week and a cryptic problem set due on Sunday. Textbook reading is borderline unreadable, quizzes are very complex in wording. Class "demos" are useless. Seems annoyed when you ask questions as it throws off his lecture timing. Felt dumb asking questions

The class was I tended to be exciting but end up being the most awful thing I've come across. You hardly learn anything, your overloaded with multiple assignments per week and end up spending 80% of your time on this one course just to keep up. If the only way to get an A is to work on just this one course, something is terribly wrong.

Suthers was a great professor, he's very passionate about HCI. Gives a lot of options for earning extra points which makes the class a lot easier. Quizzes are tough and cover a lot of material. Class activities were fun and engaging (for the most part). I would recommend him for 464!

He is a really terrible professor. He is incredibly inconsistent, sends out important and time sensitive emails at crazy hours like 4 am, switches deadlines constantly, is rude when students ask questions, and his disorganization will end up ruining the course. If you want to learn the material just buy a book, you'll be better off.

Amazing professor. I really learned a lot from him. His podcasts saved my life. If you don't do the readings, at least watch his podcasts and read his web notes. The readings always confused me, but once I watched his podcasts, it would make so much more sense. This class is hard and it's a lot of information, but he made it manageable.

The instructor is cool, but the amount of material covered in this class can be overwhelming. One chapter per class so the pace quickens with lots of reading from the book, web notes, and watching screen cast lectures online. In class, it was mostly group work, while homework and exams test your analytic thinking. Best to take on a light schedule.

Great prof. ICS311 is very difficult, but very doable. Quizzes everyday before class, and lectures are all on youtube. In class time is spent solely in groups solving problems. It turned out to be a great way to learn, and you can benefit from watching the videos over and over. The topic is hard, but you will pass if you try!

This class is a nightmare but Take it with him! He is tough but he is a great teacher and will push you. The topic is already intense but he gives you slides, screencasts, and class time to understand the work. Quizzes everyday before class and homework every week. 3 tough projects. This class will weed out people who are serious about ics.

Funny guy thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style. Projects are super hard though but I would say everything else is manageable although you need to put in a lot of time into this class.

The course was hard, but Dr. Suthers made it manageable. He made the lectures online (video podcast) and we do examples in class. This made the class less difficult. It's still a killer, since you face a chapter per class and have 3 midterms, 3 projects, a final, on top of daily quizzes, weekly homework, and graded classwork. Take 311 with him!

Quizzes aren't meant to be difficult and just check for basic understanding. Exams are fair but usually too lengthy. Getting a good grade is very possible, but just like the previous person suggested, make sure you do all the extra credit 'cuz you'll need it ...

Know your 211 stuff well. Start ALL projects AT LEAST one week prior to the duedate. Finish ALL problems on the problem set and make sure you understand the problems. And Go for those extra credits, you will need them. Passing shouldn't be difficult, try challenge yourself for a higher grade.

If you think using Hegelian philosophy and obscure Russian psychology in anyway relates to HCI, then maybe you'll enjoy this class. Others (like me) will find it pretentious and pedantic, and a total waste of time. Though, the class is easy -- just do the work. Suthers makes you write a lot (but he'll probably be too busy to seriously read it).

Nice guy and all but very unorganized and unable to teach. Read the material before lectures since he tends to often find his own mistakes in his slides. He rushes out assignments and projects without thinking since projects and exams were scheduled in a way that you prepare for one and fail the other.

Very knowledgeable. Well prepared class structure, with room for student input for special topics. Class is not easy, but it shouldn't be at the graduate level. He's a busy guy, but if you want to talk with him you can make an appointment.
