Comment:
Dr. Chen is such a nice professor! She very obviously knows the subject like the back of her hand. Due to the lack of quizzes, it was easy to avoid doing the readings, but because no one read, she noticed and had a hard time getting people to participate. The lectures were a bit scattered and could use Powerpoint. Otherwise, amazing professor!

There was 3 response papers which were a page or two, 1 midterm, a facilitation event that is easy and 30% of your grade and a group speech for a final. She is very chill, kind of a push over at times but very nice. Attend class and participate and she will love you.

This class is heavy on the reading! DO ALL OF IT! Most of the material will be on the exams. Overall, Professor Chen is a pleasant woman and she will always take the time to make sure you understand the reading and lectures.

She's so chill but doesn't grade too chill. One visit to her office hours can make a total difference, especially when you're lost. The readings are a bit much but I got a B+ overall for not reading half of them.

We all want to be known and understood. I highly recommend you study Social Semiotics with Professor Victoria Chen!!! You will learn how to interact successfully in multicultural groups. You will learn to listen well, and fine tune your ability to speak so that others will want to listen, and listen so others will want to speak." AMAZING!

At first I didn't care for her, but after taking her GWAR class, she's a really great teacher. She is so passionate and understanding of student's busy schedules. She's very sweet and was a really wonderful teacher. Easy grader and helpful. Take Victoria's class!!

Best teacher I've had, honestly. Incredible woman; she does all she can to help strengthen and better her students. She truly cares about each. She's very helpful both in class and during office hours! Love her to pieces; she's the sweetest woman ever :)

She's a very kind and easy-going person and is always trying to help her students learn. My two complaints about her are that she's not the most clear or engaging lecturer, and that she's rather vague on how to study for exams. Other than that, the material is real easy and participating is the key to success in the class.

Textbook is not the most easiest of ones, but keep reading it because once you attend her lecture, the material will become crystal clear. She tells you everything you need to know, but you have to come to class, you have be prepared, you have to pay attention, and you have to take notes. To me P. Chen is one the best professors at SFSU.

Social Semiotics was really interesting...just not with her. Personally, I felt like class was a waste of time, didn't learn anything...it was pretty much class discussion throughout the whole semester..she barely lectured..there was a group project, midterm, final, and some extra credit opportunity...I would not take another class from her.

My least favorite COMM course. The book was a horrible read, the tests were off the wall, and her note you can never read or understand. There are always awkward silences, and sometimes shell just randomly pick you. Then the facilitation project is majority of your grade so focus a lot of your attention on that. I will say that shes understanding

Comment:
This was my hardest class this semester. She demands a lot of participation in discussions which she is controlling of. There's a lot of reading: 2 books and a $10 packet. She was vague about assigments. Tests are tedious and long. She's a hard grader. She's an old-fashioned: puctuality, commitment, hard work, share comments with the class, etc.
