I took his class in 1998. I did well on his first test but studied independently. His lectures were a waste. I got 1 question wrong on the test but did not understand why it was incorrect. I went to his office hours and showed him the line in the textbook that showed my answer was correct and he yelled. Said I was trying to weasel a better grade.

Interesting problems. Can be difficult to follow, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Awful. He's very rude to students who are just trying to get clarification on a problem and the concepts.

You can definitely tell that Dr. Gacs is smart and loves CS. His lectures can be a little hard to follow but once you get used to them, they're pretty helpful and interesting. HOWEVER, I'll admit he's pretty tough to like; his condescending and sharp demeanour often discourages students, though I don't think he ever really means to hurt anyone.

Prof. Gacs is not a good lecturer. It's likely that you will have to learn the class material by yourself. During the coronavirus time, BU makes all classes online and we have records for every lecture. I have to admit that after several times of watching his video, I still cannot grasp the point.

Most students do not go to his lectures because he mumbles a lot and is unclear. Instead, they go to Dora's lectures. He is not very helpful online and is condescending and inflexible when students have questions. He makes subtle and sassy remarks when students genuinely have real concerns.

Don't understand why people say mean stuff about Prof Gacs. I personally think he's great. Very helpful during office hours, always friendly and willing to explain again and again. I always ask him questions about homework. His thoughts are very clear if you are willing to listen. Perhaps his lectures are not amazing but they are far from horrible.

Not helpful on Piazza at all, in fact, a lot of times he will be condescending to you for asking an innocent question.

Peter Gacs is criticized a lot for his teaching style, but to be fair he is quite old. He tends to forget things while lecturing and says a lot of UMMs. He is helpful during office hours though.

The absolutely worst professor you can find at BU. I'm currently taking his CS330. His lectures are just unbearable, you're better off not going. His answers on Piazza are absolutely vague and unhelpful. He doesn't even pretend to be helpful. Literally take anyone but him. Hard to believe he has been a professor for 10 years.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Professor Gacs. Seriously though, despite seeing reviews of this course all the way to 2013, his teaching quality is still awful. He stutters in lectures, sometimes needs to think through a problem in his slides, and only gives vague answers in the forums. How is this possible?

Grading criteria was very vague throughout the semester. Language of choice was Netlogo and Java, a very odd combination and left a bad taste. Students had little reason to come to class. Felt that the professor was frequently unprepared to lecture. Hardly anything was structured.

Professor Gacs is very knowledgeable and interesting person. He provides a very clear structure to the course. His lecture notes are succinct and clear. He is a stickler for attendance and playing truant will affect your grades negatively. He is also very patient in his office hours, so do make good use of that.

Too much contents, would be better if split to 2 courses. But this course may improve one's math in a new way.

This is a very difficult class, and homeworks will take you upwards of 8-9 hours a week. Even then you may still not figure everything out, and there is no coaxing answers out of Gacs. That said, if you read the lecture notes before or after class, try the homework even if it seems futile, and study hard for the exams, you should be okay.
