Easily my favourite course this semester! Dr. Vanderwel made sure to cover everything in detail, and had lots of real-world examples for concepts. This course is a great start in biochemistry. Assignments were straightforward, and tests and the final were fairly easy.

Amazing professor, makes the course as interesting as possible. Material is difficult, tests are thought provoking, not 100% memorization. Vanderwel is super approachable and easy to get a hold of for all questions! She really wants her students to do well, if you follow her learning objectives you're golden. Take her section if you can!

Dr. Vanderwel is an amazing chem professor. Although her tests are tricky, if you understand the applications she will find ways to give you marks. She is often accessible outside of class, and is always willing to help you understand something. I would 10/10 recommend Dr. Vanderwel for any chem course

Dr. Vanderwel is a wonderful person and professor. She is very caring and wants her students to succeed. Her lectures and lecture slides can be disorganized, therefore it is recommended to supplement the lecture slides with the text. Tests are fair, and to do well, understanding is more important than memorizing. Would take again!

Honestly the best Chem prof you will ever have. She is available a lot for office hours outside of class, which is very helpful since it is a tough class. She also has these workatorials she puts her time into, to give you more extra practice and time to understand the material. I have never had a prof so caring about their students. Take her clas

Loved her! She is super helpful and genuinely wants her students to do well. Lots of practice material online, good amount of office hours, had "workatorials" for extra help and held review sessions. Tests were not too tough as long as you study. Highly recommend!!

Absolutely loved her! She gave learning modules for each chapter covered with specific terms/ideas to know and assigned textbook problems. She was great at answering questions and further explaining concepts in and outside of class. Chemistry has never been a subject I'm naturally good at but she made it so easy!

Great professor, she is knowledgeable, engaged , clear with what she expects you to know, awesome powerpoints & also funny. She has a real ability to make each Biochemistry lecture interesting. It's biochem so you should expect some hard work but super fair marker that gives useful feedback. Sad she isn't teaching both semesters.

Great woman and I would love to be friends with her, but not a great prof. Slides have absolutely no information and studying for tests/exams is a nightmare. She goes so fast in class it's hard to keep up and looks for keywords on tests, not concepts. Probably the hardest tests I've ever written thus far in university

Made herself very accessible (email/office hours) and was helpful if you saw her. Organized. She has learning objectives, practice exams/questions, and tutorials. Tests may be tricky but are fair if you studied and paid attention. Must attend lecture. If you needed help, she was there to answer questions. Felt she truly cared about how people did.

Read the reviews for the prof and was excited to take the course, disappointed overall. Her posted lecture notes consisted of only pictures and she had learning objectives were but required heavy detail in test answers, which didn't match her wordless notes. Going back to study for tests was an absolute nightmare. Would never retake her as a prof.

She's a pretty good prof, made the course easy relative to what it could've been. One thing is that she doesn't get back to emails quickly. She takes about a 3-5 days to respond, and this was stressful at times.

She's one of the best professors I've had at UW. Takes her time to discuss concepts. Make sure you do the practice questions that she assigns every lecture. Go to every class, pay attention, practice, and you'll be alright. :D

Lots of office hours, solutions done in class are posted online, but I find that she's a little all over the place. And lastly, there are long answers in her tests and exams! ! ! You really have to know what you're doing. (BTW, yall should rate profs, dont be scared. You don't need to sign up to rate a prof - completely anonymous)
