I'm immensely satisfied with the valuable skills I have achieved in Dr. Lai's class. Unlike the typical boring text book education that I usually get in other classes, I've discovered an exciting aspect of Finance in his class. Although I've received a C, I truly believe that the benefits far outweigh some meaningless grade letter.

Everyone seems to complain about his accent. I can honestly tell you right now that even with a professor who speaks perfect American English will not make your life easier in this class. This is an extremely difficult class, and even more so to students who have limited experience or background in math and finance.

He is nearly impossible to understand. That being said - he tests directly from the end of chapter problems and the problems through the chapters. I didn't enjoy the class. 3 tests 1 group project

Professor is a wealth of knowledge on trading derivatives, he speaks in formulas so you better know all your calculus and algebra, his knowledge on the subject is paramount, go to his office and see his collection of quantitative trading literature, only wish he spoke better english. Take only if you want to learn Derivatives!

This guy's wealth of knowledge is amazing, I just took him last semester and got an A. Project was ok if you did it early, CLASS IS FOR SMART STUDENTS ONLY AND IT IS THE HARDEST YOU WILL EVER TAKE, HE WEEDS OUT THE SLACKERS IN DAY 1, get over the accent, this class is for those who love trading. He has improved my trading performance with options.+

I thought he would be hard but turned out he was pretty easy. His tests are straight from the HW and concept check. Just do the HW and you'll do fine. You need to do the all requirements for the project though. He's a weird guy and has a thick accent but it's easy to get at least a B.

Make sure you form good groups, this is suuper important. Read, read, read! You will not pass if you only rely on his lectures. He does have good insight if you understand the material. What more can I say, his curve helps a bunch. Don't be a "Super Chicken, be a Super Ego squared". Good Luck R*

The syllabus states, this will be the hardest class you ever take @ CSUF, this is true. Options and futures is very difficult to understand so you must read the text over & over. Do not rely solely on the lecture because you will not pass. If you take his class form good groups, this is crucial. Good luck and "Don't Lose Your Underwear".

This is the worst teacher at CSUF!Cannot speak english or teach. I work for finance professionals and they say this guy has no idea how to teach. he got a ph d, who cares if you cant explain anything. first part of tests were same as hw problems but rest of test was hard. Project is rediculous and he offers no help on it. Avoid at all costs!!

DO NOT TAKE HIM! I ignored the warning cuz he fit in my schedule, but honestly, it would have been worth going to school 4 days a week instead of 2 just to avoid him. I'm a 3.93 GPA student and I passed only due to EXTREME effort. He can't speak English and the only way he passes anyone is by giving the same probs on the exams as on the HW. Awful!

Severely underated! He might be hard to understand but he makes it up by having the exact same homework questions in the exams! It is obvious he is passionate and very knowledgeable in what he teaches (MBA graduate from Yale with 30+ years experience). I believe he wants to teach more than what the syllabus offers...especially in FIN444.

It is impossible to understand him (unless you speak his language) and he doesn't really understand you (he might be deaf). While his ability to teach is ridiculous, his expectations are high (he doesn't curve). The one good thing about his class is that you don't ever have to go to class b/c it's a big waste of time.

Doesnt speak english at a level to be teaching ANY class, especialy one of this difficulty. Powerpoints were just as difficult to understand, and the homeworks dont prepare you for the class. This teacher is just typical of the quality of education you get a CSUF.
