Dr. Zoumaras was a great professor. He shares a lot of stories but is fun to listen to. His grading style is by progression meaning that if you continually do better on assignments, that he will give you the grade of the last assignment you turned in. If your scores are all over the place then it will be the average... so study wisely. Good luck!

If history is not your strong suite, I suggest not taking his class. He assigns 3-4 test and a 8-10 page paper, tough grader on those. Lectures are boring and scattered but participation and attendance is mandatory. He aspects to much from students taking his class only to fill an LSP requirement.

If you're one of those people who has a hard time getting to class, DO NOT take HIST 105 with Zoumaras. I've had a lot of medical issues this semester, and wasn't able to attend class. Even though I did all the classwork (AND had A's and B's on it) he refused to pass me, even with doctors excuses. CRAZY!

only good thing about him is that he cancels class once in a while. lectures help almost none but attendance and participation are important. 3 tests and a 8-10 page essay

3 essay tests and an 8-10 page paper. Note cards over each chapter and readings he sends over email. Lectures are painfully dull and he wants you to participate.

Very scatterminded. No real lectures, all classes were just long and directionless discussions. Is not a hard grader but grades on some very weird aspects.

Probably the smartest professor I had at Truman. He assigns a lot of reading, but if you learn how to skim, it's not too bad. His book selection is excellent, and if you just try to improve, you'll gain his respect and he'll become increasingly engaging. If you're serious about learning he is the best teacher in the department.

Dr. Zoumaras is a great teacher. He is really passionate about his classes and also wants students to succeed. But, he expects you to read before class, participate in discussions, and take his class seriously. Do those things and an A is attainable.

I would not take him. He is nice in class but in his office, he is kinda mean. He is not constant in his teaching style and gets harder as the class progresses.

Great professor. Class is not easy, but you will learn a lot. He is very approachable and a really nice guy. I'd recommend him unless you are just looking for an easy A.

An extremely interesting class. Must do a small amount of prep before class (notecard with a question/comment), and the tests are difficult, but if you get an A on the final, you'll get an A in the class. Plus, you'll actually learn many interesting things.

Dr. Zoumaras is a really nice guy! He can be long winded but he is an encyclopedia of information. His class is discussion based and expects you to know the material before coming to class. He is a tough grader on papers but he does require you to become a better writer. Take his class. It is hard but you learn a lot!

He knows what he's talking about. No tests, most of your grade comes from book reviews and historiography paper. You will read an average 50-90 pages for a class period, and there are a lot of books, but they aren't text books. Most of the time they are interesting which helps. He's a good professor and helps to explain things. I'd take him again

Zoumaras is very knowledge and passionate about his subject. His tests are simple and are drawn from the lectures and book. He says attendence is mandatory but never checks. The homework (notecards) are kind of a joke...basically a pretty easy A if you are a good writer.

Only 3 tests and a long paper. If you don't mind listening to a man who probably knows literally everything about his subject, Zoumaras is for you. Class is entirely based on lecture but tests basically consisted of you writing the entire class period on any given subject. Loves to see students getting better. DONT SIT IN THE FRONT ROW.

I had him for Post WWII America. He has very strong political beliefs but he doesn't teach them. His classes are lecture and discussion based. Lots of reading, and three huge assignments- a final and two large papers. Emphasizes growth over time. Be sure to take notes during discussion. Enjoys his subject a lot.

He is very knowledgeable and his lectures reflect that. He gives lots of reading per night, but there are only 3 tests which can be take home or in class. There is one long paper which can really hurt or help your grade. I would recommend taking him only if you have a strong background on US history.

I never really read the textbook, and still got an A without trying. Vote take home tests -- essay + 2 ?s. Read the captions in the do****ent book for 1 ? and read the time lines before each chapter in textbook for 2 ?. It's that simple. Essays are fine if you passed English.

He's very bright, has done a great deal of his own research, and pushes discussion-based learning. He loves disagreement. Grades on participation, but emphasizes quantity over quality. His readings assignments are large (350-500 pages/week) but extremely insightful. Also emphasizes growth over time in grading. VERY clear about expectations.

This class is actually easy. There is a lot of papers, but when it is all said and done -- he tells you what he wants, and if you do it, then you get the grade. Take home tests are a piece of cake, as you only have to answer two questions on the test date, which takes at max 10 minutes to do. He knows his stuff, makes lectures interesting, and is r
