Johnson is one of the most respected professors at UMF and is also one of the easiest; he assigns a lot of reading but you can get by w/skimming. He grades generously and though his lectures are standard and can be hard to understand bc of his soft voice, he is intellectual, theoretical and supports his students-- always willing to sponsor projects

Professor Johnson is pretty great. He's really quiet, so if you have trouble hearing definitely sit towards the front. I have found that he's really laid back and is always looking for people's opinions on topics talked about. Homework is minimal, not hard at all. Relatively easy grader, as long as you give your best.

Professor Johnson's classes are great. He's flexible throughout the semester and chooses content he's passionate about. His prompts are broad and he's a pretty relaxed grader. I've taken two of his classes and I liked both, I feel like I learned a lot.

Professor Johnson is great! I can't believe some of the reviews on here. I've had a class with him twice and would happily take another. He's kind, understanding, and an easy grader. Sometimes he can be a little dry, but he's smart and has a great sense of humor.

All I can say about Johnson is just wow. He's super soft spoken and can be hard to interpret, he has a 'right answer' for poetry discussions and passes off your opinions, and he's the HARDEST grader! I have a few weeks left in his class and because he's so hard I think I might not be able to salvage my grade.

Oh my god he is an English teacher you would think you could read his hand writing, but no. How am I supposed to edit essays if I can't read the notes?

An all-around good professor. He gave us literary quizzes on sometimes irrelevant details, but other than that I enjoyed the class. If you push through the quizzes and sometimes last-minute papers the class will be fine. While very frustrating sometimes, this was a good class with a great professor.

I took The Splendid Drunken Twenties with Johnson and really enjoyed the class. He knows a lot about the literature that we were studying and I feel that I leaned a lot in his class. I think in general his higher level classes are more interesting than his introductory ones.

I took The Splendid Drunken Twenties with Micheal Johnson and really enjoyed the class. He knew a lot about the literature we were studying and was able to keep my interest throughout our three hour class. I think in general his higher level classes are more interesting than his introductory ones.

How did this man get tenure? He only likes your paper if you go show him a rough draft and let him tell you how to write it. He makes you define terms like you both don't know what ALLUSION means. And he shows Buffy episodes as if they have anything to do with the text. Why, UMF? Why do this to us?

I just couldn't get this guy. His classroom discussion was incredibly dull. It seemed like the class found more in the text than he did. papers were also a mystery in the class. we had no rubric to go by. He seemed to like papers which spent half the paper describing terms like foreshadowing than probing the work. one of my least favorite.

Both lit theory and lit analysis with Michael Johnson were interesting. I thought he was a great professor, and I can appreciate any English teacher who can pull both advertising and Star Trek reruns into lit theory. He's a great professor who's often over

Johnson is a very nice man. He comes off a little strict in the first days of class. Once you get going he becomes more layed back and eally quite fun. Do your essays and you'll be fine. His use of pop culture and other time-relevant issues make class enjoyable.
