She can't teach so it feels like you didn't learn much but tests are EXTREMELY detailed. She doesn't give good feedback on the tests so sometimes you might not even know why and how you got something wrong. Also, she has a weird sense of humor that can come off offensive.

you think this math will be easy? think again! she can't teach.. doesn't go over the hw them in class because she expects you to email her or come ask her for help in her office. Grades homework for accuracy when you haven't learned that lesson. Half of the class are confused out of their minds but it seems like she doesn't care. can be mean

Professor Koop comes across as stern and arrogant, but after the first couple weeks she opened up. She cracks jokes with the students, and keeps a light attitude. She does not like the students who complain about the readings, or who think that because they did good in high school they already know everything about math. She's a great Professor!

Comment:
This class was a huge mistake. I am not a math major and she knows people in the class (Math 100) aren't either... yet we are expected to know advanced mathematical concepts she never teaches. Instead of being given the formulas in order to figure out a problem, we are expected to figure out the formula on our own (!?) Ridiculous. Not recommended.

I'm good at math, but I've never been so frustrated in my life! The worst prof I've had at Calvin. Assignments take 2 hours (at least) and her lectures & notes don't help at all. Tests aren't as bad in comparison, but prepare to be frustrated & confused. She's condescending & unapproachable. If you're looking for an easy A, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!

Her teaching style was somewhat difficult for me to learn from, but I would not say that she is a bad professor. That said, it is obvious that she does not have any respect for students whatsoever. She carries herself like she is 'above' all students and is incredibly unapproachable.

I loved Koop! People need to take their classes more seriously- the things we learned in Math 221 is the content we will teach to elementary and middle-school students. If you passed high school math, it should be easy! Koop takes her job seriously and really knows what she's talking about.

She was a very difficult prof to have. I was not impressed with her teaching at all. She's a very tough grader. Make sure you study for her tests, because they're straight from the notes you take, which is pretty good. They're hard, but decent. She's not a completely mean person, but she's very no-nonsense, and doesn't really grade that fairly.

Professor Koop can be intimidating. She is a strong women, and doesn't let you slack off. But she is clear in lessons, and she will take the extra time out of class to help you succeed if you need it.

I was frustrated with how many students in the class did not like her and were disrespectful. When you do the work and listen in class, it is very doable and even enjoyable! If you don't understand, she is more than willing to clear up any misunderstandings.

This prof is pretty ridiculous... She expects you to know things she doesn't teach. She's also an extremely difficult grader and would never suggest her to anyone. Get through her class still excited to be an Ed major and I'll be impressed.

She is very cut and dry. If you do the work and ask her for help she is always willing to help you. She pushes you and that is what some students do not like. But, if you work hard and show you are really trying you will do fine. You learn a lot and her teaching is very effective.

Great Teacher. She was tough and expected highly of you but if you kept up on the work, asked questions, and were invested in the class, you would do well. The class is really what you make of it. I loved it!

I didn't enjoy the class in comparison to other math College programs. The math course was supposed to teach elementary school math. Not helpful. The way of teaching made it confusing and conceptually irrelevant to how a child learns.

DO NOT take this class with her if you have not taken a math class in several years. She is very condescending, a hard grader, and the tests take a lot longer than the time given. Office hours were never extremely helpful either. On the last exam there were grades in the 20 and 30 percent level, and no one had an A. DO NOT TAKE HER.

This class was taught extremely well by professor Koop. You can tell that she loves teaching this subject and wants us to understand the concepts. You do a lot of in class activities that are extremely helpful in seeing how it relates to elementary kids. Plenty of diff. opportunities for points so it's an class you can easily do well in.
