Comment:
Mr. Quinn is an awesome instructor! His notes are extremely helpful, but students are also expected to actually read the material and participate in class to receive full credit. Those who work hard will be rewarded. Mr. Quinn takes time to help students understand concepts and I was seriously impressed by his commitment to his students!

Yes, there is a group project at the end of the term. It involves public speaking. As long as you present ideas that aren't plagiarized you'll pass. 179 wasn't that hard -his chapter notes help tremendously. I liked the guy quite a lot and am taking CIS189 with him currently, though I don't like that he gives homework feedback at the end of term.

Provides no grades so you have no idea how you are doing (graded 3 of 24 assignments) Ends term early, but make you do full term of work. So much busy work. He also will change the syllabus, adding never before mentioned assignments randomly. Assignments sometimes talk about things not in his notes or even talked about in the book, at all.

I hesitated to take Scott's class due to some of the reviews here but his class was awesome. As long as you show up and do your assignments on time you will learn a ton. Only bad thing is that he makes you do a group project at the end of the term. I would take him again in a heartbeat

short time for quiz, hard question and confusing . make the quiz tricky . weekly quiz , weekly homework , mid term exam , final exam . presentation , didn't give you full mark for your home work you should be right 100% to give you full mark .

Lecture + Lab (in class) & Quiz (online, timed) each week. Labs are mostly hands-on so you can't skip class. Sometimes he switches lecture + lab days and there's no make up labs. Final presentation - 20 minute speech! You need the book (NEW for the CD). Don't buy from the bookstore it's a ripoff. This is a very hard class, but you will learn a lot.

After meeting him in person, I can better understand why people don't like him. Overall I thought his data communications course was very accelerated and challenging. Definitely teaches his audience as if they are on his level rather than just students. Workload was insane, but unfortunately he's the only prof for this course.

Scott is very friendly and helpful instructor. He seemed very unprepared for this course, providing very sketchy material at the last minute. His teaching style lacks structure and clarity, jumping from topic to topic. He's very slow to grade assignments.

Useless teacher. It's been 9 weeks into the course and he hasn't graded any HW. Hardly responds to E-mails. Class overview: Weekly quiz, weekly assignment, weekly discussion posts, and there's a 2,000 word paper due at the end of the term plus midterm & final. Way too much work for a 100-level class. He grades harsh too.

I see many poor quality comments for this professor. I do not agree with all. One thing that you wont see much graded material is a fact, But why worry if you know you did the assignment or homework correctly. If you not sure how to do it right, Scott will always guide you and help you, just ask. He is fast paced teacher, knows allot about network.

Clearly an expert in his field, with plenty of experience. Very approachable. However, only 3 classes left for the term, and only 1 lab graded. Frequently incorrect or duplicate items posted to D2L. Also, forgot to assign large presentation project until there was very little time left to complete it.

Almost final time and he still hasn't graded a single thing. His lectures are very dry but you can tell he really enjoys the material. I would not recommend

I got a B. This is the worst teacher I have ever had. I had him for fall 2012 for cis 278. He went the entire term and never showed a grade for labs. Students that require grades for financial purposes during the term were unable to get updstes. I still have unanswered emails that I sent mire than once. If you can another teacher do it.

I can't believe the bad reviews here. I took the online class. Scott is an EXCELLENT teacher and the materials are clear and well-thought-out. The errata is minor no where near 65% that someone cited. I think mostly whiners must post here. Do the assignments, read the material and you'll ace the class.

I had Scott Winter 2011. His class is difficult, but I thought he was an excellent instructor. I did not care for the text, but he did have well-prepared online lectures, which I primarily used in quizzes. He is dedicated to being a good instructor

This is a damn 100 level class so the work load is just insane. 11 assignments, 10quizzes, mid-term, final, project paper, and 12 discussions. Worst class I have ever taken and he is more about what you didn't do right. I truly truly can not stand this class. Whatever you do don't take it! And if you do don't take anything else cause even my 200 level classes don't have half as much work he gives.

I have read many positive reviews for him; I am convinced those students must not have been online students. He is one of the worst instructors I have had in my 5 years of taking online courses. He corrects 65% of the material in the book he uses, which makes following the material very difficult. I don't feel his approach is effective.

I had heard so many good things about Scott.I His CIS179 class and it is just horrible.I have poored my heart into my assignments only to get shafted on points for little things here and there. I give him what he wants but it still isnt good enough. He grades way to hard and it is so not fair. He gives you 10 questions and wants you to right a book

Quite possibly the worst teacher I've ever had. Asks numerous questions with subjective, often wrong answers. EXTREMELY pedantic. More interested in details than subject matter.
