Comment:
Terrible prof. His lectures are awkward and incomprehensible. Makes way too many references to Clueless. Once gave me a zero on a quiz that he clearly didn't look at because he didn't like me personally. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Comment:
Very very poor and disrespectful, I would never recommend him. Only used one author (Jonathan Swift) and other than Gulliver's Travels he only read poem about prostitutes. Was a biased marker and would choose favourites (mostly guys). Also would say you were wrong even with evidence and even if it was in a different class he has never taken.

ambigious marking scheme, did not assign any due dates until a month in, which cramped all the assignments together in the last month and a half. never answers his email. he knows his subject, but could work a little better on the delivery of it.

So dry and dull. Doing the readings on my own was way more beneficial than attending class. He mumbles to the point that he is incomprehensible. This class is two semesters and I am desperately wishing I could switch to another prof. Hard marker as well!

Although he is very dry and dull to listen too, he is passionate about the readings and is very helpful. He understands that this english course is to teach students how to write and is considerate of that. Don't think Ill take another class by him, but fairly enjoyed this course.

Very interesting Prof in class, has lots of good insights. Like his choice of text in this class, Collective works of Jonathan Swift. Very hard marker on assignments and his assignments are very vague and unclear. He fails to recognize a first year class expecting that everyone knows what a 4th year would know. He is however very funny and nice.

Very BAD prof. He knows his work but is very dull, and puts you to sleep. The novels are also very boring, and uninTEresting. He is also a very hard marker. NOT RECOMMENDED

While he may not be the most interesting speaker, he certainly knows how to explore a novel or story without ruining it. His choice of novels was wonderful (Through Black Spruce, The Road, and The Lathe of Heaven). Like any english course there was a lot of writing and reading to do, but enjoyable reading material makes the effort unnoticeable.

Oakleaf obviously knew his material, but was not clear in presenting it! Oakleaf taught with enthusiasm, but read from powerpoint notes riddled with errors. He would attempt to right these wrongs in-class, which was tedious to watch. Oakleaf has a morbid sense of humor, but is a fair marker -- those who put forth effort would succeed in his class.

Comment:
Oh, Oakleaf. This professor is funny, articulate, and almost intimidatingly intelligent, that doesn't translate in his teaching. He assumed we knew the historical context (which in a period course is usually not accurate for the class) and gave the vaguest of assignment outlines. Didn't give the class too much effort.. so students did likewise.

Although very passionate and wise, I find his class to be quite dull, not at all interactive or particularly pleasant to attend. I do not like that he makes us listen to what his opinions are and what he thinks are good examples - how about letting us find our own examples? His "jokes" are not funny but rather unnecessary. Great literature, however

This class was soo much work. The final is reading comprehension worth 40% and midterm is 15% also all reading comprehension. Your essays that you work SOOO hard for only account to 25% of the grade. This class was really tough for a 1st year english.. i got 94% in ENG 231 and a bloody 69% in this class. Who cares about the prof..tests were HARD!!

You have to work hard in this class for a decent grade. Gives thoughtful suggestions on essays. Really knows his stuff. However, I did not find his class engaging. I'm honestly passionate about literature, I even enjoyed the assigned readings quite a bit. The class itself was just hard to get into- though that could be just me.

There isn't much student-teacher discussions in his class, its mainly him talking to the class for the whole lecture. I found this class boring, but his novels selections were interesting reads. If you're looking for a easy class, find a different prof.
