He is just amazing!!!! He cares about his students a lot!! A lot of people say hes slow but I see that as a good thing, I get to spend more time in a topic and understand it better! I would love to have more classes with him

Very helpful if you talk to him in his office. Lectures are boring, but tests are pretty fair. Do the practice tests/problems and you should be fine. He recorded his lectures so you could watch them on your own time if you didn't want to go to class.

Dr. Johnson is awesome! He might seem slow & disorganized, but he genuinely cares about students. Only drawback of this course was test & exam questions being short-answer only. However, he is extremely fair in terms of marking and you should do well as long as you listen to his lectures on moodle and keep up on a weekly, if not daily basis.

Johnson is a very slow dude. He moves slow, talks slow, and even breathes slow. This doesn't make him a bad prof, he's just boring sometimes. He does care about his students and will answer any question regardless of if it's in class or after it. His midterms are easy and only 2 out of 3 count. You don't really need the textbook.

Philip Johnson is a great guy. One of the better chemistry lecturers at York since his lectures move at a reasonable pace, quizzes are simple and fair, final exam was a joke! But read the textbook and do lots of practice as well and u can easily get A/A+.

Philip is a nice guy, but his lectures are slow and boring. I feel like he explains things more complicated than it should be. His tests are okay, but a good background in chemistry is needed. The exam was okay and had additional ques we never learned IMO. The bulk of the learning comes from doing practice questions!

He is an easy prof who makes the easiest midterms. Overall, he is a nice man. However, he is really slow and puts the bulk of the course for the exam.

Do the textbook questions he tells you to do. Do the practice HE gives you on moodle. As long as you UNDERSTAND the material, you can get an A no questions asked. Tests are very fair. Final was also very fair.

His tests are extremely straight forward and to the point- no tricks at all. However, he's a very slow lecturer. We were behind all other sections by a few chapters. However, he suddenly sped up at the end, to the point where he was going so fast no one could actually take in the material. He posts lecture recordings so u don't need to go to class

Out of all the first year chemistry instructors, Johnson is the best. He has fair tests, records the lectures, posts notes (fill in the blank style) and seems like an overall nice guy. CHEM 1000 and 1001 are difficult nonetheless, and you still have to put in the work. Read the book, do the practice questions, and do the past midterms.

Johnson is a great prof, he teaches at a very slow pace, his tests are extremely fair, if you do the assigned questions and the study package there's no reason not to get an A. Other than that he's really nice and helpful. would definitely recommend. He records his lectures too so attendance isn't mandatory.

Johnson was a very easy prof, his tests are very straightforward and as long as you've read the textbook you'll pass. However, his mark allotments for the test questions are not fair - so there may be one question thats worth a big portion of the midterm. What I liked about his teaching is that he taught the course at a very slow pace.

Very sweet, funny, and helpful prof. Attending lectures isn`t needed since he basically just reads off slides and is a bit slow and behind other sections, so you can definitely self-teach yourself. He`s willing to answer questions and never gets upset, he even gave the class candy one time! I love Dr. Johnson, he made me enjoy chemistry.

Lazy about going through problems in class, reads off his slides, and skims through lecture material without explaining concepts clearly. Think of it as self-teaching the course. Tests are simple however, just do all of the textbook questions, for his questions are exactly like them. Final exam was really easy, easier than his tests.

Pretty good prof! Made the course easier than chem 1000. Tests were very easy, if you did the textbook q's. Took up textbook q's and tests step by step.. Slow, but for chem, thats a good thing!
