He is very helpful, but sarcastic so it makes you not even want to ask questions. He does have appointments to talk and help you with the next assignment. You should definitely take advantage of that. He is a very tough grader, so you will have to work for a good grade. The grading consists of weekly quizzes, 4 papers, and in-class assignments.

Me. Petersen is a really good professor. Sometimes he can have a bit of a temper and seem really awkward but he generally does care about students wanting to succeed. Make sure you come to class though or you will not pass the course and he grades tough.

He can be a bit rude from time to time, and can sometimes make an a** of himself. He does give good feedback on papers, but he is a tough grader. He requires a lot of work to be put up into a final draft and it can become real tedious, real fast. Despite the good feedback, I don't think I would take another one of his courses.

Petersen is a tough professor, because he pushed you to do well. Always go to the meetings he offers before turning in your papers. Write them early, go over them with him, ask questions and be proactive. He wants you to do well because he wants to teach you to write for an academic readership. He's a great professor if you want to be an academic.

Dr. Petersen is an incredibly intimidating man. I was terrified of him at first, but after awhile he settles down and he's approachable for the most part. If you work diligently and do as he suggests, you'll be fine. He sincerely enjoys his subject and doesn't mind helping you out. His personality doesn't work for everyone though, so just be aware.

Comment:
To say Dr. Petersen was unhelpful is an understatement. He requires multiple drafts of a paper including a one-on-one session with him to discuss the paper. He would tell me things in my draft were great and then when I turned in the final paper without changing those things, he would tear my paper apart. If you can, do NOT take his class.

I took his honors sections for 1010 and 1020. In 1010 he was sarcastic, but caring and I made it out of there with an easy A. in 1020, he was spiteful, meant, and condescending. I am not doing nearly as well. You will write four 1500 word essays in both classes, have 10 easy quizzes from readings, and a ton of participation points. only take 1010.

He knows his subject, he knows what he wants from assignments. The class tests are there just for points and the majority of his grades come from the 4 essays you write. These have very specific rules he likes you to follow but enjoys your personal expressions within their boundaries. He will make you work for your grade. He is not an easy teacher.

I would not recommend him. He told me I had a great paper but since I did not completely destroy and change it It was a C at best. He finds rewriting and revising to be more important than the content or anything else in the papers. Not an understanding professor. He lectures AT his class, not TO his class.

Dr. Petersen is the best professor any incoming freshman could have. He reminds me so much of Mr. Feeny! He's very helpful and he truly does care about his students. His honors class is very difficult if you're not an English guru, but he's more than happy to teach you how to write a wonderful paper. Taking his honors class again next semester. :)

Took his honors class, but probably should have just taken standard. He's an excellent teacher though. He is always willing to help his students and offers advice/criticism in a constructive manner. There is a lot of work in his class, but it keeps you on top of the material.

he's difficult but he tells you what you have to do to receive an A. crazy midterm and a final essay and final exam that were crazy as well. Read the material even if its for the one day that he kicks out the people who didnt read. intimidating but personable. spends a lot of one on one time with students.

Grades harshly but fairly. A grammar nut, but that's the only way you'll learn. Keep a close, close, close watch on your commas - a misuse of them will kill you. His quizzes are fairly easy if you read the material and are a good annotator. Take him if you're up for a good challenge of your writing skills.

Expects alot out of his students but I learned a lot in his class. I hated him when I struggled but I appreciated him when I understood. He does indeed border on uppity. Thinks his 50 years of experience makes him better. But he will tell you what's up without qualm. Once you get to know him he is highly interesting.

Petersen is an excellent teacher, but he's juuuuuust over the line of uppity. Plus, he lectures for an entire class (no need to read the text in advance!). Why not let the students read some portions aloud? It's a lit class! It would keep them awake.

He is a great Professor! He expects you to do what you your told, but he also makes what you need to do clear. He expects you to be responsible, but he is also understanding when things come up. I recommend this course and I wish more teachers and professors were more like him. He can also have a lot of fun in his classes
