Take another section. 1) she has zero teaching experience and it shows. 2) she wants you to teach her way right down to the words that you say, and its maddening. Take another section. You'll learn way more about being a teacher. She simply isn't a good professor. Nice lady. Shouldn't teach education

Professor Billings is amazing! She really knows what she's talking about. You get to work with elementary students every week. She gives great feedback and really wants you to succeed.

If you're serious about being a teacher, I don't know why you wouldn't take this section. You get the opportunity to teach math every week! The work load is pretty heavy, but nothing you can't handle. Professor Billings understands this if you just talk to her. I've learned so much more in this class because you get to learn from actually teaching!

This class was one of the most challenging courses of my college career. Although working with the kids at the elementary was engaging, it honestly wasn't worth all the extra work we had to do. Each assignment took at least a couple hours, and half of it didn't seem beneficial. Seemed like she forgot most of us have other classes and jobs.

She gives more work than I've ever had in any class and only ever gives negative feedback, basically everything you do is wrong unless its exactly what she asked for. Prepare to spend 8 hours per homework assignment and its all repetitive. Theres no book, but articles to read for every class on top of huge assignments.

"learn from the textbook" type of class- only instead of book its articles. You have to be specific up to her arbitrary standards. does not give clear expectations and feedback is only negative. would not take her again

This class is extremely difficult. I was never able to meet the standards she presented because she expects so much detail. There are always so many assignments due and many of them take you at least 2 hours. She gives a lot of feedback but rarely gives positive feedback and makes teaching feel more like a grade than something actually enjoyable.

Her style of "teaching" is having her students read a ton of articles and summarize it in her specific way, and learn from that. Then you have to teach exactly how she wants you to teach, or she will tell you you did it wrong but not how to get better; very frustrating, would recommend taking prof Gerson or anyone else for this course

Prof Billings is a very nice lady and clearly cares about her students and mathematics. However, I've never had more work for 1 class than this. I once had 4 HUGE assignments due on the same day for this class. It's a lot of work and much of it is useless. If you can, take the section where you go into the school. Lots of work but worth it.

While I feel I am learning a lot in this class, the workload is absolutely overwhelming. It's my lowest level class and it takes up so much of my time. The work is relevant, but repetitive and much of it is unnecessary. I took this class to work with students, but if I were to do it again I would have taken the on-campus option instead.

Professor Billings is a very sweet lady, but you need to have plenty of time for her class. Her workshops and take home quizzes are long and hard (about 4-5 hours each). She expects a lot and grades tough. It's a great class to get experience with the kids, but it is one of the hardest classes I've taken, and this is my 4th year. Not an easy A.

Prof Billings is super sweet and willing to help, but she gives more work than any other professor. Her comments can be pretty confusing, ask for clarification. Expect 8-10 hours of work a week. Not an easy class with her.

Professor Billings is not a professor you take for an easy A. She's a professor you take because you want to learn. She makes you work for your grade, but if you put in the work you will get good results. She is by far the best professor I have ever had at Grand Valley so far. Take her if you can.

Billings provides lots of busy work, but it all helps you understand the concepts. Her class involves a lot of explaining your reasoning and thinking to get full credit. All of our quizes were take home and we got a note card for our final.

She is super nice and knows what she is talking about. She is really passionate about teaching. A lot of the class feels like busy work but it really prepares you for teaching math. The homework assignments take a good 2 to 3 hours and are very long and repetitive but worth it. Lots of in-class assignments too and about 5 quizzes -take-home portion

She's super nice and a really caring person. Be ready to work in her class. She will give you the most work out of all the MTH221 professors, but you will learn the most. Be prepared to explain your thoughts and give good reasoning. I would recommend her to students who want to learn. She's very helpful and wants her students to succeed!

She assigns a large amount of homework and expects the students to only spend about 1-2 hours on each one. It actually takes 4-5 hours to prepare each workshop to her satisfaction. Her comments and feedback go in circles. She doesn't like something, then, thinks you should add it again, then, wants you to take it out.

Amazing teacher. Yes the workload is enormous but it is a 300 level course. She wants everyone to succeed just talk to her. If you put in an honest effort, which yes, is many hours between classes, your grade will reflect that.

Billings is a good prof who knows what she's talking about. However, you do an ENORMOUS amount of writing for this class. You get 1-2 homework assignments after every class, which take 1-2 hours each to complete. Fair grader, but a large workload, especially if you are working and taking a lot of other classes.
