I had the opportunity to take a class in the honors college with Professor Furniss. He really is an excellent teacher. The material we covered was incredibly interesting and he conducts class in a way that really makes you grapple with the material. If you've actually come to college to learn, he's one of the best.

Professor Furniss is brilliant. He expects a lot from his students but you get so much more back from him. The readings that he chooses are enjoyable to read. There were only a handful that I would not have read for fun on my own. The test is difficult but he allows a makeup of the entire test. If you work hardshow up to class you can get an A.

Worst teacher I have ever had at IU. He does not go over readings in depth in class; tests address specific, tiny details picked from hundreds pages of reading, without regard to class discussion. Does not use oncourse or computers - everything is done on paper. Grades papers without any helpful feedback for improvement. Made my semester miserable.

I loved coming to this class everyday. He really made me think on exams, but they are easy if you do the readings. Read them first before class and then read them right before the exam. He is really inspiring and loves what he teaches. Mill is required reading for poli sc major, so it is great to learn it from him. I recommend him highly!

Very good teacher. He definitely made me want to come to class. The topics he picks make you think and on exams, you have to know the material, but he doesn't throw curve balls! He's a nice guy and always open to questions! You should take at least one of his classes before you graduate :)

First part of semester is easy; read sparknotes on Mill and do e-reserve readings, don't read darwin. Plus he also goes over the reading quite a bit. During the second part of semester you are screwed, because Montaigne has no sparknotes and he does not go over reading. Repeats some questions from old tests. Extra credit is about people in politic

If you don't do the readings, you're screwed.quite a bit of reading, in classes we overview what we read, but you definitely can't just count on the discussions. tests are short answers, specific, always have to give examples from the reading. He is pretty boring. he prods group discussion, we sat in a circle to be able to see and talk to eachother.

Delightful professor. As others have said, the readings he picks are outstanding. Sometimes lectures drag, but it is so worth going to the class. Reading J.S. Mill actually helped quite a bit with future poli sci classes. It isn't hard to earn a good grade (yes, EARN it) if you attend, pay attention, and read. Top-notch professor.

This guy's a great teacher. He can be boring at times, but if you pay attention and are interested in the material, he knows his stuff. He likes to involve the class with discussion and picks EXCELLENT reading for the curriculum. Take his classes.

He's a very nice guy. He reminded me of somebody's cool grandpa. There was a lot of reading, and it's important to stay on top of it. Discussion and lecture in class was thoughtful and interesting... even for a 2 1/2 hour class on a Monday.
