Comment:
Very difficult professor who has little patience and is a bit snarky with most if not all responses to questions. He is clear with his lecture, although dry, his papers are very difficult due to their limitations. Get the books! There are quizzes every week, the first half is not very weighted but the last quizzes and essays are, its all curved.

Although he offers interesting points of view on topics not frequently studied, that's not enough to justify his extremely arrogant, intolerant, and condescending nature. It's true that he encourages students to challenge him. And after bringing me to tears, I realized he's just an egotist trying to validate his own intellectual degree.

Read, read, read, and read. I can't stress that enough. If you slack a day or two on reading, you really end up paying the price for it in exams and Quiz-Rs. If you're on the ball, the class is very influential and you learn a lot. I reccomend Dr. Clanton to serious students, not those looking for an easy A

One of his more interesting classes. Make sure to read books because will be quized weekly on reading. Grades hard on papers but they get graded on a curve in the end so don't overly worry if you get low grades on them. He's a weird teacher and can be boring, not as hard as people make him out to be, it's just a lot of reading.

He is a hard teacher, a quiz every week on exact wording of the reading. The papers are 250 words exactly but are very challenging, 4 of them and he drops 2. Plus 4 exams that are also hard multiple choice. Also he drops 2 exams I think. Lots of extra credit. Attendance is mandatory do to the quizzes.

He is so mean, he ruins my monday every week. He is smart, just too old, stuck in his socialist ways, unable to acknowledge value in others point of view. He only uses the books/readers HE wrote. He teaches incorrect information, and says he encorages anyone to challenge him.I wouldn't reccomend it though-Very condesending, he even made me cry twice

He is a tough teacher and the class is not recommended for non-soc students or lazy ones. But he is super helpful if you just show effort.

Had him for 101 as well so I was used to his odd quizzes. You need to read at least a bit to do well. This guy can be condescending, but you really learn a lot. Soc 310 itself is an interesting subject. Def. rec. for anyone in SOC or thinking about a SOC major.

Pretty demanding, but incredibly knowledgable and precise. Buy all of the books, and go to every class. I would not recomend him for a non-sociology major. He is an aquired taste, but I liked his class a lot...and actually learned quite a bit

The class is hard at first, but once you understand the way the class works everything should fall into place. 3 short papers, 5 quizzes, and NO FINAL. You go and pay attention to all the key points in the lecture and you should do fine

If you are not a good test taker dont take this class tests are true or false only. A lot of reading but interesting subject. He's tests are extremly difficult and hard to get even if you work super hard. Is not helpful at all even though he thinks he is... he just makes you feel stupid for not knowing stuff he has taught. Dont take this class

the class is hard to get used to at first, but once you understand his way of teaching, it will get better. quizzes are comprehensive, 3 short papers, and NO FINAL. Grades on a curve. A good grade is possible even if you mess everything up in the beginning. He expects a lot from his students, but just wants them to learn

This class can feel very discouraging in the beginning because his grading system is EXTREMELY confusing but if you read all the readings and take all the notes u will do great. Honestly with this class the more u study the better u will do. Cumulative class so make sure u dont forget any of the material. review each week.

Clanton is very interesting teacher. At times, it seems as though he wants his students to suffer through his mandatory lecture and random comments about religion. Other than that, his class is fairly easy. Just read his textbook, GO TO CLASS and basically, do what the guy says. He's a little bit over his head, but you can def. pass his class.
