Particular about grading. Learn his style and you'll be okay. Tells you most of the test problems, so memorize them. Go to drill, the TA does the homework for you and attendance at drill is free bonus points

Dr. Jong takes full advantage of his tenure by verbally abusing students who dare to ask questions, even for clarification. He proudly declares that it is his job to help students, but berates students for interrupting him when asking questions, and even yelled at a student over the phone for emailing him instead of going to office hours.

Posts his past notes, quizzes, and tests onto his website, most with worked out solutions. Very predictable with what will be on the tests, which comes from the notes, homework, and quizzes. He goes off on 10 minute rants about things and wastes a lot of time. HARDEST GRADER i've ever had. Counts off for the tiniest things. Read and teach yourself.

I went to class, read meticulously & did all the homework. 5 wks: 2 hrs a day: 5 days a wk. None of this saved me. Taking a class with Jong is a right of passage at UARK,but there were some glaring prblms. Racism specifically towards black students, refusal to answer many Qs, and overtly telling several students they were dumb/stupid. NOT OK

Jong is a right of passage. He's tough and oddly ocd about trivial dynamic term definitions, vector hats, etc. But he is consistent. I don't think he's necessarily a great instructor of the material, but I do think he teaches students how to teach themselves. I give him a 5 for entertainment value though. p

His grading is crazy. He'll nickel and dime points away from you. He doesn't explain well, so your left to figure it out for yourself. He will ask problem 4 the meeting before each test and it is just definitions which must be word for word what he told you. The one thing that allows you to pass is that he is very consistent. He post old test.

2 weeks into class an I'm already failing his class, not because of incorrect answers, but from not having the right color of engineering paper, using a pen on the first test, SPELLING A WORD WRONG, boxing answers "incorrectly" and other stupid things like that. Seriously, don't ever take this teacher!

I have never had a teacher that was such a tough grader. On one quiz I had 20% deducted, not for having the wrong answer, but because I drew one box around two answers. The only comment was a red X that said, "separate boxes for answers". This man does not care about his students, he doesn't care that the class average is a 68. DO NOT TAKE HIM

Doesn't explain material very well. Hard to understand. Grades VERY hard. Tests aren't too bad, but if you don't study hard, go to class, and do all the homework you won't do good. DOES NOT CURVE AT ALL. I needed 1.5 more points in the class for the next letter grade and he wouldn't budge. He wouldn't even curve someone who needed .25 points....

If you are going to take statics you better be ready to spend all your free time studying and doing homework. He is the strictest grader I have ever had. It is almost impossible to get full credit on anything. If attendance look low then expect a pop quiz. GO TO DRILL AND OFFICE HOURS

Jong is definitely a straight forward kind of guy. He lets you know that he thinks you should know and actually everything he thinks. Dont be offended because he will talk about Americans and their bad grammar and refer to many of you as a "cowboy" or "sharp shooters" depending on if he thinks youre dumb or smart. Overall, he "very good engineer".

Jong is very predictable. Homework is done in class and in drill, usually completely. Any that he doesn't do, you can usually find in the previously posted class notes. Quizzes are derivations of homework problems and usually he'll ask the class what they want on the quiz. Significant amounts of extra credit can be earned in drill.

Jong is the most transparent professor I've ever had. If he tells you something is important, it is important. Only surprises are on the non-numerical portion of the test, so I suggest just knowing everything. His lectures make my day so just do the work and enjoy his outbursts.

Dr.Jong is a pretty decent guy. It takes a while to get used to his style but once you get it.....it'll be an easy A. Yeah he's REALLY picky when it comes to grading. But hey, 95% of the time you'll know what'll be on the test. Just KNOW how to do all the sample tests and you'll be fine.

Going to class is pointless. He will upload the problems to his webpage. His tests are exactly the same as those on his webpage, unless he says a different problem is going to show up. Work the sample tests as many times as you can. Having old notes is important as well.

DO NOT take this class during the summer. Dr Jong does not take it easy on summer students. On that note, he is a very good teacher, and any engineering student who is interested in the field for anything more than a paycheck should be stoked to learn from him.

Can be very difficult at first, but if you make it through statics, mechanic of mat is a breeze. His teaching is almost useless, but figuring out how to do the problems on your own really helps with your problem solving skills in subsequent classes.
