This is one of the toughest professor at JMU. Doesnt leave any feedback but instead how bad you did. I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy!

Let me tell you, I have never had a worse professor in my life. This class was completely asynchronous and you could tell just how lazy Dr. Adolino was because of it. She offered no help with explanations and made her tests and quizzes IMPOSSIBLE--this is coming from a straight A student. Not worth the anxiety and anger. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

3 tests, 6 quizzes. very helpful outside of class. exams are very wordy and difficult. gives 3 extra credit options. attendance is mandatory. super sweet professor. voice is a little boring.

Comment:
Adolino is boring, and honestly, biased in her teaching of a comparative politics course. She teaches you her opinion and expects you to think that is the correct answer in tests and quizzes. The course material isn't dense, and its just 3 tests and 6 quizzes, which are honestly really confusing because she is terrible at wording her questions.

Professor Adolino asks a lot from her students while being very unwilling to accommodate herself. Her quizzes and tests are impossible to study for because of the way she writes her questions (in a subjective tone, including grammatical errors). She grades participation on how much time you have spent on her canvas page. Two thumbs down.

Her lectures were extremely dry, and would usually go off topic in material that had nothing to do with exams (even though all testable material came from lecture and textbook). The tests are near impossible and I did all the required work, tests had nothing to do with lecture. Took this for my minor and lead to my change in minor. do not take her.

One of the hardest classes. The quizzes and tests don't correlate to what she teaches or what the readings are on so it's impossible to get a good grade. Plus she doesn't show grades to her students.

Professor Adolino is able to showcase her knowledge on contemporary European matters in the most professional and detailed manner. Her Politics of Western Europe course is a great course to take in order to satisfy the Comparative Politics criteria. You learn a lot. Shes straight-forward and is a great listener and helper. The best lectures.

This teacher has an awful system of grading papers, that includes a detailed 12 page style guide that is whimisical, not based on anything factual. It's used to just dock points at will, not to mention there are 7 books required for a 1.5 month course. This is the hardest teacher at JMU and the least enjoyable to take a class in.

HORRIBLE! Do not take her class! Her tests are unfair & if you don't show up to class you get penalized but if you do show up to class you get no credit. I am an A student who just graduated & this is my first C+ in college. Do not take her class! I don't understand how she has good reviews. Her lectures are SO boring & I didn't learn anything!

In her class we read 12 full books, had four 5-6 pg papers and a white paper of 40+ pages. While she is amazing her coursework is EXTREMELY time consuming. She is a very picky grader and few students ever got an A or B on her papers. If you have a lot of time to dedicate to her class take it, if not I'd take another inta 489 teacher.

"Russians in the Gulag had a better chance of making it out than someone coming out her class with an A." She has ridiculous standards. Requires students to read 10+ books, at least one book a week. Several papers. FAR more requirements than any other section of the exact same class. I am considering myself LUCKY to make it out with a C-.

Dr. Adolino is an amazing professor. For POSC 345 this semester she had us do one 5 paged paper and one 15 paged research paper. She does have strict writing guidelines, but as she said to our class, if you follow the guidelines and answer the prompt, you'll do well. She is very smart and knows a lot about Western Europe.

I loved Dr. Adolino's Western European politics class! You will learn so much and she knows everything there is to know about the subject matter. Yeah she has extensive formatting and writing guidelines, but as long as you read and follow them, you'll be fine! This one of my favorite classes I've taken at JMU. Highly recommend!

Easy lectures to follow & posts the pptx on Canvas before tests. She has reading quizzes on the readings every once in a while, nothing to worry about, 3 pts and are easy if you did the reading. The tests aren't an easy A, but aren't hard either and there's extra credit at the end. I haven't tried much and I have a B+/A-, you don't know your grade

The actual worst to be honest. The class is unnecessarily hard. Her tests are ambiguous and no matter how much extra credit you do, you will more than likely do poorly because the is the worst grader. They don't match the material at all. POSC200 is a gen ed and counts toward certain majors/minors. If you don't have to take her, don't.

Dr. Adolino is a ruthless grader. She has incredibly strict writing guidelines and takes off significant percentages of grades for minor errors. She has significantly higher standards than other professors at JMU. While this is normally a good thing she immediately expects her students to be on her level. If it is not to her standard it is wrong

Comment:
Adolino has an arrogant attitude about her. It is difficult to get questions in edgewise during lectures because she talks nonstop. She is a merciless grader when it comes to papers, as she has several 'writing guidelines' for you strictly to follow. There are 5 to 7-pg papers due each month and a 15-pg paper due at the end of the semester.

Dr. Adolino knows everything there is to know about UK Politics. She isn't always clear on reading assignments and has a lot of specific rules about paper formatting. Tests are tough but I have learned more from her than any other professor. Don't be afraid to take her class, challenge yourself and you'll enjoy it.
