Well, it's been seventeen years since I took this class but the teacher left a lasting impact on me. It was an excellent class for diving into the human soul and complex sociological and political questions. I am now working away in the concrete jungle but I can venture back to a place where life is more then paying bills.

Very intelligent man but he's an arrogant person. I personally did not enjoy his class nor did I feel like I took away any techniques or tools from his class

Amin is a great prof! I really enjoyed his class. There's a lot of reading, so you should read before class. He LOVES when you speak up in class (part of your mark) He'll get to the point to know your name if you do speak up. He's very kind to students. Go to class and you will do well. Take notes about details in the stories and you'll do well.

Dr. Malak can be unclear in his marking guidelines at times; he seems to have strange standards. He is very forward in how he lectures, which can put some people off. Overall though, he has a lot of passion for literature, and is very helpful if you're unclear on things. His lectures are by far the most engrossing of any prof I've ever had.

very intimidating; very strict about classroom rules that should be applied in elementary schools, not universities; i attended every class, did all the readings (on time!), and got A's and B's and i STILL felt like he hated me because i ate during his lecture once...

Dr.Malak is a great guy, and an amazing educator! He really sparked me to read different types of literature. He is a hard maker and at the time of his class I felt that I should have waited a year or two before I took a class with him! Though he help mw. He did his best to help me with my papers as a prof! I would take a class with him again.

Absolutely amazing professor. Took comp 101 with Asma Sayed and absoluely hated it. Never got over a B and I went to every class and did all the readings. Dr. Malak is incredibly bright and involves the class in all the lectures. I took a week to write my first essay and got a 92, put in some effort and he acknowledges it. Clearly u can get over 89

He is very friendly, but extremely confident to the point of showing off. Other than that I found him to be a fair marker, nothing too harsh. If you show up to his class you should be fine.

I took Middle Eastern Narratives with Dr. Malak. The course was life changing. I bought his book, a recommended text, and it was invaluable. Do your readings, attend, and be respectful. He is a demanding but brilliant prof, and I put more effort into that class than any I'd taken before. He genuinely LOVES teaching, and I respect that immensely.

Dr. Malak was an excellent Professor. One of the only actual classes I've ever had at the 100 level where the lectures flew by. If you show him respect as a prof then he will show you respect as a student. Having said that if you are just entering post-secondary and have poor writing skills you might want to take this in your later years.

I was hesitant taking this class after seeing so many poor reviews. I found him extremely enjoyable and papers and exams were straightforward and relatively easy. Taking 103 with him next term and am greatly looking forward to it.

Really Solid Guy. Anyone who does bad in his class is just lazy. He is very insightful, and loves what he is teaching. He also gives a lot of time and a variety of sample topics for papers. He also clearly specifies what he expects on essays. If you attend regularly, keep up with the assigned readings you'll do fine in the class.

Awful. Avoid at all costs. Marking is highly subjective: one classmate was told that when he marks our paper a number pops into his head and that is your mark. Very demanding. Wonderful person, awful prof.

Awful. Don't even think about writing a paper the night before, don't talk, don't text don't eat, don't even breathe loud. He is demanding, and will reem you out if "disrespect him" Pompous, and arrogant, this prof is just insufferable, and unnapproachable. And don't even ask for extensions or revisions for extra marks. Yelling will ensue.

Amin Malak is one of the best educated people i have ever met- not only official education but also his own boundless efforts. This class is far from easy- 89% is as good as you're likely to get. He's a fair marker, though- you cannot expect perfection at an introductory level. He's very kind, but is the sort of person who commands respect.

This class was okay, but I would never take it with Malak again. True, he does know what he is doing, but he doesn't posess the basic people skills to convey his message and keep students entertained. He is very pompous, and although he will listen to other ideas, he still believes that his opinions are the right ones. Moderate marker.

Malak expects a lot, and the readings can be extremely difficult to get into. He can be a hard marker on essays but at the same time he is fair. His knowledge is incredible, and while some say he talks about himself too much I enjoy listening to his stories. He has a lot of experiences and is a real inspiration.
