I've taken a few classes with Pat now (225/341). Overall a good lecturer (no slides so take notes) but the hardest ENG marker I've come across so far. Getting an 80 is essentially as high as you can expect on an essay. His exam format is great though (paragraph answers to quotations/references from the novels or plays). Attendance not mandatory.

He was an incredibly hard marker so this class was not easy. However, he was really helpful when it comes to planning essays or understanding certain plays better. He is a really nice guy and sometimes he can be funny in his lectures. He really knows his stuff so he makes you explain very in depth in essays.

Gives very informative, if old-school lectures (no Powerpoint). Really challenges students to give good evidence for their thoughts on the works. Funny at times and a nice guy. I really like his test format (1 paragraph answers on different references and quotes from texts). Knows his stuff, good at teaching it.

He was a kind and humorous prof who was always willing to help. The textbook was useless, just buy the plays individually. Also, do purchase Shakespeare A-Z as it is very helpful. Assignments aren't bad and neither were the exams.

Pat Kelly is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He has a pleasant attitude and his lectures are interesting but he's close minded. If you write a paper that challenges his own ideas you will receive a low grade no matter what. If you must take one of his classes make sure to echo his opinions in your papers and suppress your own opinions.

Absolutely loved this class and Professor Kelly. His knowledge is amazing. He is shy but is also very approachable. He makes a lot of notes on essays. He wants his students to do well. He remembers names and takes an interest in student's and their lives. Highly recommended!

He is a great professor. Has a firm knowledge on the material he choses and tries to make references to recent events or movies so the works become more relatable. He is open minded and encourages class discussion.

His lectures were very insightful and interesting. His grading was challenging but fair (I received high 80's on papers and exams). He was very encouraging and helpful inside and out of class. Never yelled, but sometimes blushed when talking about the implied sexual innuendo in Victorian novels. Highly highly recommended. His class was a joy.

Fair, understandable, and knowledgeable. I'm not as crazy about Shakespeare as I could be, but he definitely made it clear and often took into account different possible intepretations. He'd hear out his students democratically, which is a trait kinda hard to come by. Gotta love Shakespeare to do well though.

Professor Kelly is a really nice guy. He is very knowledgable and very flexible on essay due dates. There is a LOT of reading in this class and it's pretty important to be in class to know what's going on.I would take another class from him for sure. I've never seen him anything close to angry ever.

Yelling? Are you kidding? I can't imagine that! He is so soft spoken and shows patience...even with questions that make everyone else roll their eyes. He is a hard-marker, but fair and insightful. If you work hard in his class it is able to get a 90 average.

I disagree with previous commentators--he never yells and he didn't mark me hard. (I got 90 in Shakespeare.) His sample exams are just like the real ones, so no surprises. His essay marking gives really good tips. I hated Shakespeare before this class, but now I deeply appreciate it. His vast and insightful commentary made me see differently.
