Dr. McClish is top three of the most influential professors I've encountered. If you are lucky to learn in his course, do your homework. Do your readings, pay attention to every handout (he knows what he is doing). Trust me, you will not waste your time in his class. Writing center extra credit incentive, take it. Don't skip this class. 10/10

Mcclish was an amazing teacher who cares so much about his students. I loved his class so much. He has quite a few short reflection assignments on readings 1-2 pages but they took me 1 hour max and I found them very easy. 4 papers total but he gives you feedback/ a chance to revise and extra credit for writing center. TAKE HIS CLASS

A very patient and understanding professor. If you put the required work in, you should be able to achieve a good grade in his class. Offers extra credit for going to the Writing Center, so that helps as well. Make sure to do the readings and the short assignments, so your papers are much easier to write. Also, he enjoys precise writing!

He knows his stuff and enjoys teaching it. He cares about his students and is very patient. Essay topics are interesting and you get a good amount of freedom in choosing what to write about. He assigns small assignments and makeup assignments for your benefit. Do them. Essays are at least 5 pages, excluding works cited. Assignments are 1-2 pages.

GREAT professor. Runs great class discussion, passionate about teaching pedagogical and writing issues. I learned so much from his class. He is clear and thorough about assignments. A lot of reading and short response writing-- you definitely have to earn your grade. Is tough, has high expectations, but gives great feedback on one-on-one meetings.

mcclish is my favorite teacher hands down. i think his low ratings are the result of how hard he pushes students to get to the next level. he's tough, and i was often really frustrated; but i think in the end he was very helpful and extremely concerned with helping students who expressed a desire to help themselves.

Seems like a bright and nice guy but not really much of a teacher, to be honest; focused on telling you what to think than teaching you how to think. Tends to favor a handful and is condescending to the rest (I was one of the handful, but it's embarrassing). Doesn't actually seem to like teaching or his students much, which might be why he's chair.

McClish will ruin your love for writing, and he's one of the heads of RWS! He's a rule's man who worships the worst kind of academic writing. His ideas and methods will bog you down. No heart or spine. Look at how many comments on this page he had to have erased. That tells it all.

Typical, corporate man. More for the administration than the students. The polar opposite of a "Dead Poet's Society" type professor. McClish will NEVER stand behind his students if it means causing waves in RWS.
