Dr.Y has some interesting things to teach. I liked that you learn both sides of history and he does teach instead of preach as he will tell you about. The class was a bit boring and while he tried to give clarity, I saw it as him speaking in codes. He'll probably read this review to the class so I'm giving my honest opinion and insight.

Dr. Y is probably the best teacher that I have ever had! He made history interesting and has a teaching style unlike any I have ever encountered. His lectures are insightful and if you take good note you will be very well prepared for the exams! Definitely would take this class again in a heartbeat!

Good professor but definetly would not recommend for lower-division GE class...Makes everything harder than really should be. The only thing that was history related was the end of semester Par-Score quiz. The rest of the course had unclear lectures and assignments. Single-spaced weekly assignments with prompts that do not provide much to write.

Save yourself run away. avg score on the test was a D. He doesnt grade the essay exams so anything he explains to you will not help. no powerpoints online.teaches you how to write a history essay all semester rather than actual history. Even the kids with good grades hated him. I went to office hours so much and got a C.Not worth it for a GE class

Do not take this class. His powerpoints don't make any sense. He throws a huge amount of unnecessary information at you. I took this class to satisfy 2 GE requirements with 1 class, you're better off taking 2 classes. You'll hate your life otherwise.

I literally chose this class as a filler course and stuck with it since he made it sound challenging. So... I went to all the lectures, got a 77% on the first written exam, then managed to pull an A- by the end of the semester and was happy as heck. Amazing teacher and funny too. Heads up: 2 written exams, one final paper, and online quizzes.

This class is hard. There are easy group discussions and quizzes. But final and midterm are in-class timed essays that include too much info. Interesting class but hard. I enjoyed it!

This class is an easy B..You have to go to class bc there is a super easy quiz every class & group meeting at the end of every class/your group takes attendance. He does make the class easy and he is extremely interesting and easy to listen to if you want to take a 2 hour class! The only thing is there is an essay but other than that I enjoyed him!

Not an easy class, but he is the only one currently teaching it. He chooses a few interesting topics and discusses them thoroughly, but nicknames every section of his teachings (trees, twigs, etc). This is unnecessary, and can be confusing. He does not take roll, but you need to attend class to get notes. Do all assignments and write well to get A.

He does not teach history in a traditional way. There is a 7-8 page paper due at the end of the semester, two blue books (Midterm/Final), and 2 scantron exams (these are easy! He gives you the answers ahead of time so its all memorization). This is not an easy class! If you must take it go to class, do every assignment, and do NOT procrastinate!!

Enlightened education at its finest. Just as most of these post say, if you want an A, look somewhere else. If you want to learn and learn how to learn, this is the class for you. Dr. Y did an amazing job of covering 5 centuries of material. Lectures were interesting and thought provoking. Definitely opened my eyes to a world I had no clue about.

You will learn how to think of Historical events more than about history itself. If you are looking for an easy A then move on, if you want to get something out of the class then take it. Make sure you max out of PDF and the quizzes because the midterm and final will most likely kill your grade.

I thought this class was great. It was challenging at times, but if you work hard and do what Dr. Y tells you to do you will get a good great. What I learned in this class impacted the way I think and learn in all my other classes. I recommend this class for a person who works hard and likes to get something out of the class besides a good grade

Do NOT take this as a GE unless you are very interested in history or are a history major. Ysursa is a great lecturer and can hold a class' attention, but his grading can be harsh. He even warns students at the start of the semester that his class isn't just easy memorization. If you're a freshman just looking for the credit, move on.

He repeats himself a lot and has a stutter problem but the class is not that hard. He lays everything that you need to do out on his website. He can be funny at times. He means well and is nice but sometimes can be boring and repetitive.

DO NOT TAKE FOR 100 LEVEL CLASS! Possibly a great class for upper division or history major. Preaches clarity but personal course website is a kaleidoscopic cornucopia of information. Takes 2-3 pages of text to say "X, Y, Z." T/A was always late to class, misplaced midterms, butchered essay grades. Fun class to sit in, but extremely frustrating

Comment:
The weekly write ups (kinda like quizes) are the hardest part of this class. The 1st half of the term, the prompts come from something he talked about in lecture the previous week (expect something he took a little extra time explaining). For the 2nd half, it's easier because you can prepare something before you come to class.
