Overall, I liked prof Dueck. Cons: He was unorganized at times, wasn't very clear on grading criteria or specific guidelines for assignments and tended to get off topic during lectures. Pros: He cares a lot, I found him very funny and did overall enjoy the class and content I learned. He always made himself available outside of class for help too.

This Prof is entertaining and makes lectures fun and engaging (I wasn't bored once) however, he seemed to be all over the place and pull out random facts from his memory so lectures could be hard to follow. Also showed constant documentaries in class and just spoke over them and have minimal feedback. But his character and enthusiasm is great!

Lectures didn't teach anything we were tested on. The exam tested small details that would require memorization of the whole textbook. No feedback on marked assignments. He gave me an F even though he hadn't graded 2 assignments (the semester was long over). I was unable to get ahold of him about it after. It was changed but I would avoid his class

I definitely regret taking this class. I would recommend literally any other history class in the department. When he wasnt struggling to operate the AV equipment he was lecturing on obscure topics that weren't relevant/tested on or we wasted time in group discussions. Truly disappointing, I was very interested in the Holocaust before taking this.

My man would show up looking and sounding like he had the worst night of his life and the result was being extremely unprepared for class and would not give any outline for the essays until the last possible minute. The content isn't that hard, its just he didn't take to time to organize it or care about it enough to teach it properly.

He may be quite possibly the least qualified professor at Queens. While I felt the course would be interesting, the result could not be farther from the truth. He gives no instructions as to what to actually write for papers and grading is inconsistent at best and flat out unfair at worst. I heavily recommend you do not take this course

Very knowledgeable on the subject he teaches, but he is inaccessible to his students. Doesn't answer emails with questions about assignments and didn't return grades for our final papers, leaving me mystified about how my final grade was calculated. Leaves his TA's in a difficult position when they don't know the answer but he ignores you.

super disorganized and barely taught content that was relevant for assignments or the final, so going to lecture was always a waste of time...u just need the textbook. The assignment instructions were SO vague which makes it pretty difficult for people who need more structure. Hard to care about the course when ur prof doesn't seem to

Really bad. Rants with little content, shows documentaries every lecture, and expects you to master every detail of a textbook without mentioning it once in lecture.

Dueck is by far the worst professor I have encountered at Queen's. He showed more documentaries in HIST295 than actual "lectures" those were a series of unintelligible names/terms scribbled on a chalkboard or rants about unrelated topics. If this is your style, great! Otherwise, Dueck is a prof to avoid if you want to actually learn something.

Such a good prof. One of the best at Queen's for sure. Engaging and entertaining discussions. You could tell he truly cared about his students and wanted us to succeed. Assignments were thought provoking and relevant and the novels/memoirs and other readings were extremely interesting and well chosen. Highly recommend this prof and seminar!

Dueck's class was one I looked forward too. Textbook provides information, lectures provide understanding of significance of the Holocaust. Very interesting but not something everyone may be used to. Very interesting guy, albeit sometimes a bit disorganized. Would still recommend the class as it really affected my perspective!

Fascinating course, but the lectures are unnecessary. The entire course consisted of 2 essays and a final, which was only multiple choice questions. The essays are basically up to you, if you make a strong argument and present it clearly, he should like it. Funny guy, but doesn't come off as the most approachable. Took attendance at random once.

The whole course is in the readings. Don't bother going to the lectures unless you're into the whole dry-humored-zero-schts-given-but-actually-kinda-sweet character that is Dueck. The readings are great, but he doesn't like to teach. The 7 day grace period for each assignment was a blessing (he gets us).

Dueck may be different than most professors in his usually laid back nature, but he's the perfect type of person for what he teaches. He's also very understanding and doesn't make irrational decisions that will be detrimental to your grade - he wants the best for you, and he'll help you get there however you prefer if you ask for help.

Comment:
Gord is a bit unorthodox. He wants the assignments and papers to be an more organic process (not strict on how you write). Therefore usually gives minimal direction which can be hard for writing papers. Little bit unorganized, but his humour and rants make it worth your time. If you don't want to read the text make sure to got to his lectures.
