She is nice. Understands stats. That's about it. The reality is, the lectures are read verbatim off pdfs. She gets easily distracted, no time management. Tests were cancelled the morning of. Grades posted late. No feedback. Notes were prewritten for you. Honestly, I got an A putting only 7-8 hours total into this class. Just disappointed really. :/

Class is really easy but she is a terrible prof. Cancelled class and moved tests the night before or 10 min before. Extremely unorganized and grades the tests months after taking them. You have no idea of your grade the entire semester. Don't even try emailing, she won't respond.

The lecture notes are mostly just definitions of everything and a few examples that weren't very helpful to me. Homework and Labs due before tests, she gives a review sheet and formula sheet for each test but I did not learn any of the material well or understand how and when to use certain equations. Got distracted easily, nice but not the best.

As far as professors go in a math department, Professor Hower is a fair choice when taking stats 215. As other people have said, its an easy A class, provided you review the material she gives out. easy tests, easy labs, lectures can be boring and its easier to look at the lecture notes she provides ahead of time. nice but can get distracted easily

I don't know how Professor Hower has such high ratings on here... Just to highlight a few things, she's very unorganized, class gets cancelled a lot, lectures are just her reading off of the screen and not really explaining how to work through the problems, and she gets very off topic for majority of the time during lectures. Would not recommend.

Professor Hower shares a lot of personal information but I don't see a problem with it. She is very straight forward and the material is easy to follow! If you do the homework and pay attention to lectures you will pass!

Shes is a super awesome person and I feel as though a great in-person professor; however, as someone with ADHD it was very hard being in her online class. She can tend to get off-topic and talk about things not related to class. I am person who is bad at math and found this class to be pretty difficult. I would recommend her for in person not onlin

I would recommend Professor Hower to students who don't good in math, or think they won't do a good job in Stats. If you do the bare minimum you will pass, and if you push a little harder you can easily get an A. My only complaint is when we switched to remote learning, she was hard to reach. She only responded back to a few of my emails.

This class was pretty easy and straightforward. She gives clear notes with good examples and is willing to help with any confusion. However, prof. Hower got off topic a lot and showed up to class.

Prof Hower is decent, however she gets off topic ALOT in class, which was annoying. This class was a very easy A for it being stats though. labs each week that you could complete during class, preprinted notes, and a few tests with cheat sheets for each one. If you studied the night before you would do fine on tests.

By far the easiest and most awesome stats prof. 3 tests 50 points each. Show up to lecture, do the labs, study the night before and do the review, youll get an A. Easier and nicer than any other stats prof at GV. She makes the cheat sheets for you and is absolutely hilarious in class. Put in below average amount of work and you're golden

Professor Hower really knows how to explain stats. She is really bad at replying to emails, sometimes it has taken over 6 days for her to reply. You will do a lot of labs, 3 tests, 1 quiz, 1 project, and a final. She is extremely funny and cares a lot about her students.

Weekly quizzes, homework, math gym and pre-class assignment is not mandatory but really helps your grade. There were 4 test and 1 final exam. My best advice is to take the practice test seriously and do as many versions as you can. Come to class because of i-clicker quiz questions, which also help your grade. Things i wish i knew before this class.

Take her!! She is the most caring prof Ive ever had. She talks about her personal life but I dont see anything wrong with that since shes so funny. She calmed me down several times when I was stressed and always made sure I understood the material. Tests are straightforward and labs are so easy.

Professor Hower is a solid choice for STA 215, but she tends to get distracted and go off on tangents a lot during her lectures. The lectures are average, and if you want to absorb the material you'll really have to actively pay attention, or else you'll find yourself teaching yourself from notes a lot. She's very sweet, and cares if you learn.

Hower is the most caring and genuine professor that I have ever met at Grand Valley. She truly is one of a kind, you have to get past her stories and all of the side tracks thoughts. Although, even through that, she honestly cares so much, and is willing to help her students no matter what is going on in her personal life, or theirs. Incredible.

Prof Hower made stats very manageable. Posts notes on bb to print off before class. Never tried to trick you on tests, they were very straightforward. We took weekly quizzes but it was straight from the homework. She's a solid pick for stats.

Prof. Hower was super nice and the class was very simple and straightforward. She did tended talk about her family a lot, but i thought that it was funny. You can use your homework on the quizzes and she takes the question directly off the homework for the quizzes.
