Alan tries hard. However.. zoom is a bit of a struggle for him, and is a zzzzz fest. For most French students you can't avoid taking a class with him. He assigns his own textbooks that he wrote, which are very confusing and ramble, switching between english and french, for an upper level course. LOTS OF HOMEWORK, and participation.

Alan is a great professor! I took FR315 AND FR430 with him. He is a tough grader and there is a lot of homework but he gives you every opportunity to succeed! Why would you take a language class and WANT to have an easy grader/no homework? I learned a TON from him and he is a very kind and caring man. Students don't give him enough credit!

I found Professor Cameron's class to be very challenging and I would not recommend this course to anyone who has not been in French immersion. Even though I struggled Mr. Cameron was very helpful outside of class and he genuinely wanted to see me succeed. Despite my struggles, I finished the course with a B and a stronger comprehension in French.

I don't want to discourage anyone from taking Russian 101, but this is to help people like myself understand what's expected in the course. If you are lazy, procastinate and are not at the top of your game, maybe take this class later or at UBC (easier). This course is really jam packed with a lot of stress and anxiety so be careful.

Comment:
The course material is very heavy, and in order to get an A in the class you must get an A on one of the exams, which is terrible! The exams are extremely difficult. The classes were very intimidating, as Alan picks on students randomly to speak. This course is so much work, and it is impossible to get an A, which lowers your gpa! So sad:(

Took Russian 102 as a GPA booster, but it was the opposite. You really need to work hard for getting a good grade in this class. Hurt my GPA a lot.

Alan is a great guy, however the workload in his class was heavy. If you can commit 5 hours a week then it's doable in my opinion.

Alan is a very caring prof however his courses come with a lot of homework. The homework is fairly easy however it's very time consuming. One issue that I had with this class is that he only allowed 2 hours for the final which was very misleading because on the class hand out and on the online exam schedule it said that there would be 3 hours.

I took this course my first semester of university, which I do not recommend as it was very overwhelming along with the big transition from high school. Alan does give a lot of homework but will give good feedback and will give you the chance to make up for lost marks. He will ask you to read and answer questions in class so pay attention! Nice guy

Lots of work and extremely semester end heavy (2-3 things do a day) very nice and accomidating guy, always loves helping students outside of class, but he will give you the mark he thinks you deserve rather than what your grade says, he will drop your GPA.

There's a huge workload, and you really have to know your stuff to do well on the exams. There's something due almost every class. He's funny and tries to have relationships with students. There are about 5 oral tests, 5 translations as well as 5 chapters to do in the workbook. He lets you correct your work and hand it in again which is nice.

He's really knowledgeable and his class was really fun. He is really good at explaining course material and gives clear expectations for assignments. He cares a lot about the success of his students and is very passionate about languages. However, if you can, skip right to 216 because 215 was an awful lot of review from middle school french.

Great prof. Pretty easy going. Goes through slides too quickly. CAN8 is brutal but it definitely is a part of the learning process. Gives great feedback. Lots of presentations but he usually takes over class discussion. Always comments on how expensive books are lol! Always there if you need extra help. Do your homework & on time and you'll pass.

Great French Teacher. So much homework. Can 8 was god awful. Im sure it was helpful somehow, its just the convos on Can 8 were spoken so fast. I was intimidated by his teaching for a few weeks but adjusted. He does want you to succeed in his course. Just a lot of hard work is needed. All that homework completed will get you a good grade.
