Comment:
The above ratings completely contradicts his teaching and his persona. He was the most generous professor I had during my whole Computer Science degree. The only problem you will overcome during his course is that he is soft spoken. Otherwise he is best at what he does.

Professor Hepting is a great guy and definitely has your best interests in mind. However, he is a very slow and quiet speaker making his lectures very boring. It is difficult to take notes as his writing is extremely messy. As for the content, there were several papers and an easy midterm. He is probably the okayest prof I've had.

I enjoyed him. He cares about his students learning and tries to engage them and not just read slides. Sometimes he's a bit slow to get his point across which bothered some people. If you are willing to put some effort in, he will work with you to make sure you are successful. The group project seems big but its actually not that bad.

Hepting is a really nice person and I feel like the ratings on here aren't really doing him justice. He genuinely cards about his students, and will go the extra mile to help you out with something if you're in a pinch. He is soft spoken, but I found that once you get used to it.

Biggest downside is that he is very soft spoken so i would recommend sitting closer in if possible. Decent number of assignments, but they were not very difficult coming from someone who had zero programming experience before this class. Helps to follow along using Visual Studio (or another program) in class and trying his examples. Text book helps

Before this class I had absolutely no experience with coding and after this class I still have no idea how to code. Prof does not know how to teach! Lectures were never organized and most of the time he was talking about something other than CS110 material. The only way I got through this class was using the textbook. Do not take with this prof!

Worst prof I have had but the most generous to here's why. He reads off the screen that's not how you teach CS. Lost in his own world, wasting lectures on showing us stupid robots moving. Get the book only way to pass, didn't learn anything from him. Everything he curved including both midterms but think about it. Intro level shouldn't need curves.

Do not take CS110 with this prof. For half the semester we could not hear him as he talking in way too low of a voice, even after using a microphone he was quiet. His tests and assignments are hard and his teaching style is confusing. Half the students did not go to class because of the way he teaches!

Dr. Hepting is a good teacher that relies on you to learn as you are a graduate student, he keeps bringing real life scenarios in the class, and gives you home works that will give you good value of education.

Really low level teaching ability. Gives lot of assignments, even if you put lot of effort in doing them he never grades them. You will get random grades after the final exam and you will be wondering how did you get those grades. You have to give presentation and he is half asleep during your presentation and doesn't even listen.

This was supposed to be an introductory programming class but he assumed everyone in the class was already an expert programmer. He threw advanced concepts into the class that had no place there and expected us to know them.

Dr. Hepting is very helpful and tries to inspire students in his class. Brings up interesting material for discussions. Exams are flexible - you can choose questions from the given list. If you try a little above average level - you would get a very high grade.

This is the worst professor you can meet in your life. Clarity!!! what clarity I would give him -5 if I could, he does not explain anything. Exams are far beyond the class level, he only tries to give himself a good image in front of the uni. But does not care what the student learnt. Far from being respected by the students. many dropped class.

Let's give this guy and future students some feedback. first you know you are not respected at all by any student. second everyone knows you have serious problems you need a psychiatrist man not clear, can not teach, impossible to understand . exams are not from what he taught. Deeply regret that one day I thought of taking class with this guy

Hands down the worst Professor I've encountered at the UofR. He treated the class like a coffee break. He was consistently 10-15 minutes late, and had no organized plan to teach. He could not speak in an articulate or meaningful manner, and did not demonstrate the expected proficiency of a university level instructor. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
