Barb has been one of the best teachers I've had for writing. Some may not like her methods, but not everyone is cut out for the road of a writer. It's hard work and there is a lot of necessary criticism. She inspired me and continues to do so.

She once told a student the title to his story was "wrong." Really? If your work doesn't have a feminist slant, she grades it more harshly. She gives loads of criticism, none of it constructive. I'm an even keel person, and I wanted to punch her in the face.

While I found her easy to talk to, I don't feel like talking to her was all that productive. Because it was a creative writing class, I enjoyed it; however, it was due to the fact that I had other students in the class that were great writers and learning from them the highlight for me.

She means well and tries to genuinely help students, however, she is hindered by departmental policies and the belief that whatever she's seen written about creative writing as Law. Expect a lot of peer review and to revise your papers often, so if you're a perfect draft writer, avoid taking this class.

Not sure why BSU hired her. She doesn't even have a book. "Bogue" means fake, and this writer is just that. She also argues with students and feels the need to justify her opinions over and over, which suggests that she is really insecure about her writing and teaching. She should be. The story on her Web site is complete crap. Avoid!

Bogue is amazingly friendly and she is willing to work with students on due dates and other things. She is understanding and nice and her criticism helps out a lot. She gives good, useful comments. The only thing I didn't like was her idea of commercial fiction vs. literary fiction. I believe that both can be enjoyed equally and she has differing o

Enrolled in this class with much optimism and interest. Ended up being quite disappointed in the quality of instruction. Peers in the class were immensely helpful; the prof, not at all. I got the impression that she was overworked and didn't have the time to carefully read and consider our writing.

I had a hard time with this class, mostly because of the opinions on Commercial writing vs. Creative writing. i respect the fact that some like short stories and things more, but i hate it when people try to tell me that one kind of writing is better than another. In any case Creative writing isn't my minor any longer. The course was very hard, writing stories and critiquing constantly, and i felt that her grading was biased to the type of writing she liked. A very nice person though and willing to help.

Barb is one of my absolute favorites, and her criticism is much needed to those serious about their craft. She's helpful, and clear with what is needed to write good fiction.
