I'm seriously confused by the bad rates for Handley. She has become one of my favorite professors ever. She cares deeply about her students (and the environment) and it shows. The class can be a little challenging, but for a science gen ed I think its one of the easiest ones to take. As long as you put a little effort into it, you should do fine.

Mary is a sweet lady, but her extra gene is too much sometimes. She grades too harshly on labs and answers a question with a question, so good luck with clarifying confusing things. Lectures aren't all that bad and make sure you do your textbook reading. If you don't do the online reading and work then you won't do well in the class.

To say the least Dr Handley is very unique. Sometimes the directions were quite unclear and the due dates were not set in stone. Miscommunication was also a common problem in this class. Her lectures are extremely dull, but Dr. Handley is such a sweet lady. Really cares about the environment, and LOVES when her students do, too. Tests are pretty easy, there's just a lot of homework, and the labs can be time consuming. Get somebody good at math/chemistry in your lab group or be that person!! Very interesting topics too.

Dr. Handley was one of the most helpful professors I've had at JMU. Her lectures can be a lot and her directions are sometimes unclear but she's very approachable and helpful if you ask questions. She's super caring and will help you in any way possible. Definitely would take her again. Also she's been advising in IDLS for years which is beneficial

Easy class. The canvas quizzes are really hard though. She gave us a take home final though. All quizzes in class are group, open note quizzes, its an easy class. You'll pass, but its almost physically painful to sit through her lectures. I recommend reading the textbook, I didn't and I barely got a 87. Overall easy class, especially for a freshman

Dr. Handley is a the most unreasonable professor I've ever had. Grades way too harshly and yells at students like a high school teacher would. Very disorganized and won't return lab grades back so you are left wondering how to improve. A pretty impossible class for a GenEd, wouldn't recommend taking Handley at all. Avoid at all costs, actually.

Dr. Handley can be a bit condescending at times but definitely cares about students. She's much nicer one-on-one during office hours. Overall she's not terrible and 112 is just a harder class

She's really got her heart in it. Canvas quizzes- you will do poorly. They are hard. All group activities. It sucks when you have a bad group. Easy in class activities and quizzes. Let's you do corrections. She's unorganized and takes awhile to put grades in, but i'm giving her a 5 because she deserves a better score overall.

If you are considering taking ISAT 112 as a Gen Ed, don't. For a freshman level course, it feels like you need to be an expert on everything, especially chemistry.

Dr. Handley is pretty disorganized with lectures and she can be painfully slow to get through the material. Has a lot of background knowledge but sometimes has a hard time communicating it to students. The solution is going to her office hours -- she is extremely helpful and always willing to put in the extra time to help students out

She comes off as a tough teacher, but when you step into her office in need of any sort of help she will be there for you. This professor has helped me with so much stuff related to class and unrelated to class. She is a great professor and is a very caring person as well. Course work is tough but she is always around to explain and clarify it.

She at first makes you think that class will be easy saying there won't be any tests or quizzes. you don't actually have to pay attention but even if you wanted to her lectures are all over the place and none of it makes any sense. if you want to actually learn you have to read the book. There are 3 lesson plans that she grades harshly!!!!

first of all shes really nice. that said, this is the most work ive ever done in a gsci class..in fact, its a little ridiculous. she also grades REALLY HARD on all the labs and activities. i wouldn't take her again. she is really nice and for the most part, willing to help you though. just not worth all the work.

TAKE HER!!!! Mary is amazing. She understands the student's side of things. "Oh you didn't have time? Turn it in next week." "This doesn't look right...redo it and give it back to me." She is always willing to help, even on quizes. She makes the material interesting She is a bit disorganized but sometimes that works out to your advantage. TAKE HER!

Mary is so sweet. She's extremely nice and ultimately wants her students to be happy. You can have a cheat sheet on every test, half of which is group work. On quizzes, everything is group work. Same with the labs. Most of your success in this class will be dependent on the type of group you have. The homework is mandatory, but she just checks for completion. gives tons of extra credit opportunities. My best advice is to talk to her whenever you can, she'll probably like you, helps your grade!
