I absolutely love going to my lessons. There's a lot of work to do, but he's very understanding if you're lagging behind, while still pushing you to get everything done!

Comment:
Worst conductor I've ever had. Doesn't have a minute of professional conducting training. Most conductors at University have at least a masters or Phd in conducting; he has nothing, and it shows. His face is constantly buried in the score because he has never studied it before. My university conductor now, doesn't even use scores in concert.

Personally, I think Gordon is the best teacher in the whole world! I can't imagine University without him! Between the dinner parties, the exciting nights on the town (MEGALOS!) and the leather pants........akward..........who could possibly be cooler? Also he's one of the most interesting conductors/teachers I've ever had!!! :-)

Comment:
A true clarinet guru, Gordon is passionate about the clarinet, but it definitely does not define his abilities in everything else! his conducting abilities are questionable, and although he's the only instructor on clarinet, as an accompanist, he's the least helpful of all instructors. Nice sometimes, but definitely impossible conductor to follow.

Comment:
The choir, though full of less talented musicians, is a better ensemble then the wind ensemble. That is because of the director. Aside from that, your arguments are moot. Gordon deserves no respect because he is a bad leader. He doesn't know the music and blames the students when he's the issue.

Maybe you'll someday get a change to play in an ensemble with a good conductor, and you'll understand what people are talking about.

I can't believe some of the comments I'm hearing here. Maybe instead of blaming the conductor, you guys should actually try practicing for a change. Maybe instead of talking/playing after Gordon stops conducting, you could pay more attention. If you don't like it, go join the choir.

Comment:
Gordon should not be directing ANY ensembles at Queens. In my opinion, he lacks many crucial skills for conducting, such as knowledge and patience. The reputation of the school is at stake, and we should bring back John Palmer before we all become wind ensemble morons.

Comment:
He should stick to his clarinet. Because of his direction, the Queen's Orchestra and Wind Ensemble sound horrible. He doesn't listen to the students when they say they hate the music, he just persists. Outside of that, nice guy.
