Comment:
This was my least favourite course I have ever taken in university. Assignments and midterm exams were challenging and went beyond course material, then Dr. Dahms claims the final will be easier but is is in fact much harder. There were many wording errors in her questions in both exams and assignments which the students lost grades for every time.

Tanya Dahms was very accommodating to students during the semester. The assignments were difficult, and extended beyond the lecture material. The midterms reflected what was discussed during the lectures, however the final was difficult. The material in lectures were presented in a way that stimulated both learning and an appreciation for biochem

She gives assignments on Sapling that are not covered in class, and she expects you to know everything. Her term tests are a lot easier than the final, but she claims that her final easier than the term test which is a lie, and she talks too much about politics and climate change instead of teaching the course material. Dont take her if you can

Every assignment/exam that she writes, there is always error in her wording or, causing us to mess up or misunderstand and lose marks. She WILL ask questions not from her lectures. Will expect you to give her answers based on what SHE wants, not on what the question is actually asking. She's nice in person but online is confusing as heck. :(

Tanya is an amazing prof. She is friendly and tries her best to help students learn the material. However, her assignments are very difficult. I recommend getting a tutor for this class. Her tests are much easier than her assignments, however they do require a lot of studying and hours of watching YouTube videos to try understand the material.

On several occasions I lost marks because I answered the question that was written instead of what "she wanted." Her questions written on tests often do not match the question she has in her head and you will be graded accordingly.

She seems nice enough. A lot of things that she says in lecture aren't in the notes, but you will still be tested on them so make sure you take good notes and read the textbook. We had a couple group activities. Written assignments and practice tests are difficult but very helpful.

Her lectures seem simple but you definitely do have to put in lots of effort to succeed in this class. If you are confused, meet with her during office hours and it usually clears it up. She's very willing to go over things with you if you put in the effort and go see her. She wants her students to understand and succeed.

Tanya is an extremely caring Prof. Her lectures may seem unclear at first but after some independent study everything clicks together. She is definitely one of the better biochemistry professors at the UofR and is probably your best option. Final is much easier than her midterms and sample tests are identical to what's tested.

Very caring prof but I had a very hard time with this class. I think a lot of it has to do with her teaching style. I just didn't comprehend what she said. Very heavy load in this class. A lot of info in a little time. Tough midterms. Tough concepts in which her teaching doesn't make it any easier. Better than most biochem profs tho.

Very nice lady, but not a good prof -unclear expectations, especially on dictionary assignment, and she spent too much time on stuff she would not test us on, leaving students unprepared for tests. Midterms were confusing and much too long for time given. Final WAS much easier, but I left feeling that the class was a waste of my efforts and time.

It was clear that she was coming back from a long stint away from teaching. Her lectures were all over the place and she didn't explain concepts very well. She claimed "assignments are harder than the midterms which are harder than the final" however I found them all equally challenging. Basically had to teach myself the entire course.

Tanya was an amazing prof, her class is difficult but she is always willing to help you understand the material if you ask. Her lectures are entertaining and the workload is reasonable, most of the time she is flexible with due dates so long as you actually do the work!

Material isn't hard, but Tanya's inability to teach properly causes a lot of difficulty for students, so low grades/averages is common. There was a significant lack of communication from her on what she expected for assignments/exams and so you'll end up working harder in the class than Tanya deserves. Honestly, best advice is don't take her class.

Tanya is a very disorganized and confusing prof. She rarely tells you ahead of time what she expects from you which causes you to fail. The material isn't hard but her exams/assignments are and therefore it'll be difficult for some. Textbook helps because she doesn't. Overall would not recommend, you're better off with anyone else for BIOC

Comment:
I'm giving her a hard no simply for the assignments. The dictionary assignment was never properly outlined, and the iClicker system was very slow. Very smug and unfunny prof, will laugh at criticisms instead of changing her behavior. I will not be taking BIOC 221 or any other course with her.
