He grades on the most arbitrary things. Won't show up to his own mandatory meetings. Answers questions by saying look at such and such paper even if the question is about that specific paper! Just save yourself a headache and avoid his classes if you can.

Comment:
I had to take this class for a final english course. 4 papers total, 4pt grading scale, straightforward. However, the instructions for each paper are so specific, to the point where it confuses you (the way the info is presented is overwhelming) meetings didnt help either. TIP: when struggling w/spacing, copy and paste the examples into your paper

Awful teacher. I knew the project paper wasnt going to be easy but I turned in work and still got a 0 on the first assignment because the spacing wasnt to his standards, mind you he follows his own format and line spacing rules does not follow MLA or APA. Dont listen to the other reviews saying he will answer questions... he is very difficult.

Be prepared to be extra specific (I mean specific!!) on your papers and 15+ page project even after his feedback/comments are given. Some of the handouts were outdated and contradicting. Very hard to get full credit. For an English teacher I expected him to have proper English without typos and very rude in his comments and replies.

Grades on a 4 point scale instead of a % so my grade was out of 12 points at the end of the semester. It was not a difficult class but wasn't ideal for me. Ended with a 11/12 and it was a B+. Really kind teacher and willing to provide more feedback if you ask, do not be afraid to email him, he will answer any questions you have about an assignment.

Prof. Ding is nice when chatting, but you really don't learn anything with him. You ask for help and his reply is "Refer to such and such handout" and he's very critical on your spelling, grammar etc. but half the time what he sends can't be understood due to poor spelling. If you can help it, avoid taking a class with him.

This guy seems to get more hate than he really deserves. Yeah, there's a lot of papers to write in the class, and the final project may seem daunting. But at least he clearly communicates exactly what he wants on every single assignment. That is better than most english professors. I didn't learn a bunch, but it could've been a lot worse.

English isn't perfect but he is very understandable. You have to skim the book to write the chapter summaries worth 15% of your grade. Lectures are boring/repetitive: 50 minutes on effective use of a pie chart? Learned that in middle school. Easy A but not worth the $435 per credit hour for a 300 level English class. Final is 15 pages but w/ images

One of my worst experience's with a professor. He gives little to no direction, which sets you up to fail in an online course. He is a very critical grader.

Does not give very clear directions, but he does give you a chance to turn in a rough draft without receiving a grade which I found helpful.

3 free absence after that harsh policy strong accent but understandable and it makes class less boring horrible chicken scratch handwriting make sure you follow his handouts which are super long and detailed but if you follow and fix what he says its easy a. Thing I hate most is no online grades and uses 4. scale instead of %

The absolute worst professor I've ever had at Ferris State. His grading is awful he does not help but he does bash every paper you turn in and will give you a 0 if it is not up to his satisfaction. I will NEVER recommend this professor to anyone.

Professor Ding is a very critical grader. If you want a decent grade, I highly recommend having him review your paper at least twice before you submit your final draft, and if you can, find a classmate who is willing to peer-review for you as well. He's extremely particular, so read and re-read instructions and be VERY careful!

I would recommend taking this course online. He's a great professor. One paper was due a week. Use the book to know what is expected in the paper. For the final paper if you make all the corrections he pointed out you, you will do well on the final.

Very unclear with expectations. Hit or miss with getting good grades. Tends to be rude when asked for help. Easy assignments but if you don't read his mind or write his exact way you will get bad grades. Almost no points in the class. I am usually a pretty strong english student and am having difficulty with his assignments.

For an online class with the syllabus and assignments given, expectations are horribly unclear. Grading is harsh. Would not recommend.

Show up to the scheduled conferences with a completed draft, fix what he says and you'll get an A/B. Extremely easy teacher as long as you do the work. Not the most interesting though. Very hard to sit through a lecture. Tends to repeat himself over and over again to reinforce the idea when you can pretty much understand it the first time.

Ignore all other reviews! If you can use spellcheck, you can pass this class. Class periods only half the semester, the rest is office visits to review drafts. He tells you everything you should change in your drafts, and as long as you make those changes you have an A paper. Attendance not mandatory, but helpful. Never cracked the textbook.

Comment:
This guy is ridiculous. He changes his expectations from paper to paper. His assignments are unclear and if you don't read his mind he marks you down. He has to be the most frustrating instructor I have ever had.
