Comment:
Coleen is a good teacher. However, the other quality of being a good teacher is to be able to evaluate students fairly and she is not like that. Her grading system is unfair and lazy. Our final exam was a 25 points multiple choice for 20 minutes and it will take 25% of your grade. How is that fair evaluation? Not all students are good at it.

Had weekly homework that was genuinely interesting and related to the course learning schedule but no class discussion happened. Would have been nice to discuss the learning topics according to schedule, and hear from classmates like the syllabus said we would. Every class ended at least ten minutes late, which was crappy for others

Comment:
Colleen is a horrible professor. Lectures are tangential, repetitive and rarely related to course content. She is rude to students so class was uncomfortable. Be prepared to hear the same concept regurgitated for the whole semester. Extremely disorganized, never prepared us for exams, HW returned late with minimal feedback. Don't take this class.

Goes on tangents and does not let her students speak, yet she gets mad when they do not say anything. In my last class with her she called us "horrible students" because we did not answer a question she gave us 2 seconds to think about it. She gives weekly assignments then doesn't hand them back until the end of the semester. 10/10 won't take again

Colleen is a nice woman but lacks the ability to actually be a teacher. Her lectures are useless and do not provide anything but a headache. She does not teach any textbook material instead rambles for the entire class. She lacks communication and does not provide help or answer questions.

Colleen was awesome! She was honestly so cool to work with and very personable. I found that her course load was modest to heavy but she was always fair and the work we had to do was never unreasonable or too difficult. I always looked forward to this class because her lectures were super interesting. Definitely going to take her classes again!

Colleen is an amazing professor because she truly cares about her students. If youre looking to just skate through, her class isnt for you. But if youre willing to put in the work, you will get a good grade and learn something.

Very passionate about the Himalaya's and Buddhism. If you would like to pay for meditations then take her class. If you would like to learn something, I highly suggest take a different course. She doesn't know how to actually teach her subject.

Prof. McVeigh is quite accessible outside of her class which makes her unclear instructions somewhat clearer if you ask questions. She assigns a lot of uninspired homework and pop quizzes to keep you on your feet. Most of her course material is mediocre and isn't applicable to ANTH work in NA so I advise to search elsewhere.

Colleen is one of my favourite profs at VIU. She gives great lectures about her experience working as an anthropologist, rather than just reading from the textbook. You do need to read the textbook, and there are weekly quizzes on it. If you read the chapter you will do fine on the quizzes. Homework assignments were easy and you only had to do 5.

If you're one of those students who is more interested in the grade you achieve, rather than what you learn, and how your mind is expanded, then Colleen is NOT the prof for you. She is passionate about what she teaches, and expects you're there to LEARN, rather than regurgitate. This leaves some students bewildered, and anxious.

Colleen is very smart, but has problems organizing her thoughts. Super scattered and seems to not address questions when asked. What was on the final was not what she said would be, I was very disappointed.

Nice gal, bad prof. Doesn't teach off the textbook, even though it's needed for midterms. Makes the lectures about her and her experience, not about what we should be learning. Uni was closed during our final, instead of rescheduling she made a final assignment due that week on an ethnography. Made us study the textbook though it wasn't on the exam

Gives interesting lectures. Kind but very scatterbrained. Gives weekly quizzes and homework assignments so doing the reading is essential. Unfortunately, she told us we could turn in all our homework on the last day - guess who's struggling to finish it all.

I loved Colleen! Not only does she bring her own talent and experience in the field to the classroom but she shows true passion for what she does. Should also gave out her personal phone number for easy contact, and was nothing more than a text or call away. Huge amount of homework and the TEXTBOOK IS A MUST HAVE to pass!!

Gave her own cell number out because it was the fastest way to get in touch with her. Little patience for those asking questions already addressed (ask a class mate). Passionate about her topic, very knowledgeable and great lecturer. Not an easy class, quiz and paper every week. Got an A on my final project even though it was late. Cool prof.

I'm sure she's a nice person, but as a teacher she can be really frustrating. I find her very unhelpful, and it seems like she discourages people from asking questions and takes pleasure in embarrassing students who ask the wrong ones. She doesn't show up for her office hours, and doesn't do email.

While I liked Colleen as a person and her interest in the class topics are clear, it seems as though Colleen makes a point to establish her superiority over her students. In fact, upon her own admission, no student at VIU is worthy of an A+.
