I thought I was going to fail because I really didn't understand how I was supposed to memorize so much information in time for the midterm exams. You literally have to read the WHOLE textbook and come to lectures to answer the clicker questions. However, he gives lots of bonus marks and opportunities for redemption (21% extra added to my mark)

He's a nice guy, pretty funny too, though the class is reasonably challenging. We had daily quizzes in class, so do not skip. He gives many opportunities to boost your grade though, through attending speeches or psych studies to get bonus marks, or retaking a test a second time and taking the highest grade. Interesting class and good prof.

Ian was an amazing prof. He had an in class quiz everyday that was based on the content you were learning in that current class (great grade booster). The textbook was extremely helpful for extra detail you miss or dont get in class. Notes were also posted online. Test was a bit difficult but fair, you have two chances to write it.

Loved Ian's lectures. He was hilarious & cracked jokes to try & liven up material. Lectures are mandatory he says the majority of the material you need to know, & has clicker questions. Has a bunch of bonus, & gives you 2 attempts on both tests. Grade based entirely on these tests. Super easy if you know terms and lecture notes. Great class!

I got an A+ but I still don't know much at all about the course material. There was far too much information being covered in a single GLER class. Ian is a decent lecturer, the class felt a bit overwhelming and scattered. Lots of extra credit to pull the class' grades up. Not accurate assessment of knowledge. Exam questions are vague.

Easy A class. Lectures are interesting and Ian is hilarious. Iclicker questions are sometimes difficult, but he will allow you to retry. Midterms and exams are super easy and you can get LOTS of bonus marks which ends up giving you a fantastic grade. GPA booster, would recommend.

Take neuro with this prof while you can!! Yes the midterm and final are quite difficult but the amount of bonus points you can rack up is ridiculous (over 20%). As long as you do all of the bonus mark opportunities and try your best on the exams you will get an A.

I don't know why Ian is rated so badly on here. Yes, his tests are a bit tough. But THE NUMBER OF BONUS MARKS YOU CAN GET IS INSANE, AND IT IS SO EASY TO DO. 15% bonus clicker marks, 4% for studies, 3% for going to a neuroscience talk. Yes, that is 22% you can have added to your final grade. I didn't even buy the textbook and I got an A+ easily.

I thought his lectures were interesting and very funny! There are SO many possibilities for bonus marks in this class, that you barely even have to pass the exams to get a great mark. Just make sure you know a lot of little details he mentions in the lectures!

This course was far more difficult than I had expected. Clicker questions were very fast and didn't allow thorough thought put into the answers. The exams were difficult, even with rewrites, and had intentional trick questions. Lecture notes were not helpful at all - it is necessary to do your own learning from the textbook. Wouldn't recommend.

I was a bit disappointed in Ian's lectures. Although he seems very passionate on what he was talking about, there was not much valuable information in his lecture slides, and the main important information came from what he was SAYING. Clickers are difficult and very short time is given to answer. Exams are also not easy, even with 2 given attempts

Ian was a solid prof. I found his lectures interesting and the hour lectures went fast for me. Class attendance is mandatory as his iClicker questions are worth 30%. They aren't bad if you look over the chapter before class. His exams are hard multiple choice but you get 2 tries so its possible to do well. Study the textbook for the tests..

- iClickers (read slides or chapter before class) - Get extra bonus points - Lecture notes don't help, read textbook instead - If you know your Bio 30, then you should get above 70% - Exam difficulty was hard if you based it off the lecture notes - Everything in the textbook is pretty much the exam

Course has two tests and iclicker questions ever class worth 20% of grade so must attend class. This is unfortunate as he posts his slides to Moodle, and course can easily be done just from the slides. His lectures are boring, he goes on pointless tangents and makes terrible jokes. Learned absolutely nothing from him.

Prof. Whishaw is an interesting teacher. His nonchalant attitude when teaching makes him unique in his own way. Though his midterms, exams and clicker questions are brutal, the bonus points makes them worthwhile. I encourage students to take classes with him.

Comment:
Whishaw was really inconsistent throughout the whole semester. Just reads off the pre-made slides for the class, if he goes off script it becomes a ramble on an unrelated topic. Tests were clearly made by a different TA each time and because of this were inconsistent and not always what he taught. Clicker questions were a joke.

Comment:
This course is a farce. I understand Ian's efforts to help his students make sense of the material, but he sometimes simplifies things (especially from molecular and cellular biology) to the point that they are no longer correct. Very, very easy course, but not as rewarding as I had hoped it might be. Recommended regardless.

Excellent professor. Made the material easy to understand, and gave plenty of opportunity to get bonus marks. The midterm was very fair and not difficult to do well on if you studied the lecture notes and summaries posted online (these are VERY helpful). One of the easiest (and most interesting) science courses if you are looking for a gler
