Heidi Studer will give/renew for you an appreciation in liberal education. An amazing professor who will impact your life. Political Science departments in general seem to fail in understanding the value of this type of education and that is truly sad. I would consider going back to university nearly a decade later simply to be re-inspired by her.

INCREDIBLE. She renewed my faith and romantic notions of what a liberal arts university education could be. Some of her speeches (NOT lectures) touched me and fundamentally changed how i looked at life. I was part of her final class before she retired, and the profoundness of her farewell speech will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Studer is the best professor I have had in my university career. I had her for Pol S 406 as well. In both courses she made sure not just to teach and encourage students to memorize certain ideas, but be able to challenge those ideas. Unlike most professors she will challenge the arguments you make and point out the problems therein.

she is smart, well-read, knows her subject matter. But she does not give lectures, she gives great speeches: no outlines, no summaries, no indicators as to what the main points are. hard to take notes, prioritize ideas, follow the thread. I never appreciated my high school teachers until I got to her class, she can't present info for note taking.

Truly an amazing professor and my best yet so far. Her class was difficult, but the way she engages the texts is so creative that you can't help but challenge yourself further. I definitely recommend her if you are lucky enough to be in one of her classes

I took several polisci courses from Studer in the late 90s. When I found this site, I sought her out just so I could post. In 6 years of University, no prof had a greater impact on my life than Studer. She challenged me, taught me to think critically, always had time for students and played a huge role in who I am today. Don't miss the opportunity!

Easily the best prof I ever had at the university. Really made you think in ways that i had never considered before, not from a left perspective or right perspective, just something different. I found the exams weren't that bad and her lectures were enough to get by as i got an A- and barely read any of the required readings. Just asks you to think

She is by far one of the best profs I've had since attending UofA. She is passionate about what she teaches and she shares that passion with the students. My words of advice, come prepared. Do the readings, do the work, do the exam preperations and you'll do well. Her lectures are sometimes boring (but who's aren't?) but hilarious all the same

Studer is by far one of the best profs I've ever had. She demands that you apply yourself to your subject material earnestly, and you will find that if you do, you will be rewarded. Taking 210 and 315 from her. Wow, whether delving into the Republic, Bacon or Aristotle, she will challenge you to your core. I wish more profs cared about teaching

Yeah she's okay. Lots of chapter quizes, and the exams are extremly hard and don't really have anything to do with what she says during the lectures. Her classes get old and boring fast, but if you read the material first, she will show you a lot that you would never have seen by yourself.

If you actually want to think and be challenged, then take her class. It's no piece of cake, but you will experience something rare among the university faculty...a professor who actually cares about what she teaches, and puts a lot of thought and effort into what she does.

I could listen to her lecture for hours. Her exam questions require quite a bit of independent thinking, but if you're serious about political science, that shouldn't be a problem.
