Comment:
His teaching methods are extremely out-dated. An interesting topic, but he mumbles and does not use any other note method making it difficult to take notes. However, tests are quite simple. Prof uses way to many personal stories, which i appreciate in moderation but not to the extent he used them (literally one every 10 mins). He needs to retire.

This professor is inept and unnapproachable. His method of teaching is arachaic and much of what he says is incomprehensible. He is definitely long overdue for retirement. Avoid his classes at all costs!!

Dont doubt that he knows his subject and is passionate about it however there is very little structure to his lectures which makes them hard to follow and make the classes feel a lot longer than they are.

Carlyle is constantly making funny off hand remarks which keep things interesting, though 3 hour classes can be painfully boring. He knows and loves his geography. Rather than just writing down whats on the board, basically write down everything he says b/c he asks so pretty random test questions. Is passionate about imparting knowledge.

Nice man, lectures are unbearably boring as he spends a great deal of time rambling about nothing in particular. Often mutters very funny remarks if you are listening. Class is easy, no papers, just hard to pay attention to. Doesn't seem to have done any sort of reading in the last ten years about what is going on in the world...

Good prof! Really funny, tells lots of silly stories that don't have much to do with class, but is funny. Takes a little getting used to. Sit close to the front, so you can hear him and read his notes. Class is pretty easy, just study off the notes and you'll do fine!

you pretty much have to write down everything he says and he will test you on things that he briefly mentioned and there's no real text book to study from. 2 tests worth 25% and exam worth 50% the only good thing about this class is that you don't have to write an essay

Very nice guy. Pretty nerd, goofy, & funny. The class was boring as hell, but we covered some interesting topics. There was 2 tests worth 25% & 1 exam worth 50%, all pretty easy. He gives you clues as to whats speciffically on them. You need to go to class. The tests were multiple choice, fill in the blank, & map questions. The exam was long answer

This guy kills me. I have taken a number of his classes and have always done very well. I found him very helpful when I asked for feedback. However when asked a girl from Dauphin to pick up his pillow that he left at the Dauphin in on a hunting trip, I think I peed my pants. The poor girl didn't know what to say.

I really enjoyed professor Carlyle's class. He did talk a lot about useless things but I found it funny in a quirky way. It kept me interested anyway. The classes could drag on but I found him very helpful, interesting, full of information and good with examples.

He's an odd person but he's kind and willing to help. His writing is very small and he uses every inch of the board. You'll have trouble if you don't have good eyesight and a good pen.

He was a pretty good guy. I learned a lot in that class, but a lot of it was nonsense - really irrelevant to the class but interesting nevertheless. His tests are based almost entirely on lectures. Bewarehe will ask questions that are totally unrelated to the class if it's something he talked about in class:like what raincoats are called in britan.

Comment:
This prof's great. And completely agree he is not pretentious -- humble and almost too hard on himself. Very entertaining, but without scanting on information. Expects intelligence, but displays it too. Does serious research. Absolutely worth that 600 bucks.
