Avoid him. He doesn't know what to do in lectures and ends up asking students. Assignments are graded with no rubric. It must be identical to how he coded his or else he will deduct marks for everything that's different.

Dr. Hoang is just terrible. I am not sure how he made it this far in life. Surprisingly he's now the head of the department. I have taken four courses with him. Every time I said i would never take a course with him again, but i guess i had tough luck. Anyway, avoid him even though he teaches interesting classes

An overall weak professor and programmer. Does not come prepared to teach and does a bad job at explaining things.

Comment:
He doesn't understand basic programming concepts, which is probably why all his examples are in visual basic. All tests/ assignments needs to be done in an outdated fashion as all of his knowledge is from 20+ years ago. Also his english is horrible, and he often uses the phrase "line of codes", and has a rather thick accent.

His lecture slides have consistently horrible spelling and grammar, he hates answering questions, and he often lectures on things which are easy and irrelevant while ignoring the real course material. Worst prof I've had.

Makes too many errors in class, which is too bad because he is sepposed to be some type of expert in iPhone dev. Try to find a prof with more epxerience if you can.

The fate of your entire course mark will depend on a 2-sided cheat sheet; with absolutely nothing on it that he's actually taught.

Worst prof so far, and that's impressive at Laurier. Favourite quote of his "The computer knows it's going to lose so it does not try". And when someone would ask an easy question he would take 30 minutes to explain it and feel proud. If he can't answer it, he'd take a break and never mention the question again.

This guy was just bad. My favourite part was how everyone got screwed on the final (A's turned into C's and Ds'), and the ones who went back and complained got a second chance! No one told the rest of us, of course. It's a toss-up between this guy and Song for worst computing prof ever.

Awful. Doesn't know his stuff, gets confused by own code or textbook code, repeats himself ENDLESSLY, covers the most basic concepts that don't need covering wasting entire lectures, DRY lectures, no student engagement. There is good reason only 1/4 of the students show up to his class.

He is one of the most outstanding mathematicians I have met. Some of weak students cannot follow him, but for the good students, he is excellent. I say kick out the weak students so the best ones can have a real education by professors like Hoang.

Seeing as students have to pass a TOEFL exam, shouldn't the profs have to as well? You can learn more watching dust bunnies float across the room, than anything from this goof.
