Genuinely cares about students and their grades, wants the class average to be high. Midterm 30% and final 70%, but if you do better on the final its 100%. Great at explaining things until you understand. Made thermodynamics fun and interesting.

This was the only 8AM course I was ever motivated to go to. The material is easy to follow, the professor explains topics in a very detailed way. Even though it is almost impossible to do good without going to the lectures, the lectures are still worth going to.

Best professor I have had at UBC so far. He does lots of in class problems and screen casts that end up on the exams. His lectures are surprisingly engaging especially for such dry content. Definitely recommend him.

Great prof. Won't put anything on the exam that he didn't go over in lecture although there's a lot. In class notes are very clear but it might be hard to make all 8am lectures

Bertram is the best! He does a good job teaching the otherwise dry material, at 8AM no less. More importantly, he's VERY cute - I'm fairly sure he's in his mid-forties but he could easily pass for someone ten years younger. Ladies, try not to get too distracted by his eyes and his shy smiles and his extremely well-fitted shirts. Get an A, not the D

Great professor! As previously mentioned, there are quite a few equations to memorize. Other than that, master the problem sets, take his notes and you'll do fine. The textbook isn't necessary, I didn't use it at all and still ended up with a fantastic mark.
