Comment:
Very accessible professor outside of class. Clearly very intelligent, but has no clue on how to teach his concepts. The class average is in the D's right now and its all due to terrible powerpoints (100+ slides) nonexistent criteria, and the most confusing syllabus i've ever seen. Do. Not. Take. This. Class. I'm begging you to save yourself.

Francis is a fantastic human being. This was my first class with him and it was challenging but an excellent learning experience. He challenges his students to not only think critically, but also emphasizes creative and design thinking. He's really big on groupwork, but he has some really good ideas that back this up. 100% would take again.

He is abnormal, weird when you first met him, but it's not hard to figure out what is him looking for. He listens to your confusion and encourage you to talk.( He is really laid back) Please talk to him with any questions he will give you a guide to an A+ and he will make your life easy. He is also international friendly.

Not enough characters to explain why he's an awful prof. Do yourself a favour and just don't take a class with him.

Exams only test if you can figure out wtf he's asking Exams and slides are filled with spelling and grammatical errors Slides are 100+ pages long, no page numbers Average on exams are extremely low last year and prior years, blames students Obsessed with "user friendly" but his website and slides are a mess Gets through 2/100 of his awful slides

Very nice and smart man. Tedious and boring lectures. Gets through 5 out of 100+ powerpoint slides that are unpleasant to the eye. Very few assignments until after the midterm. Average on midterm was so low he started marking more leniently. His heart is in the right place but he needs to change something. I no longer want to pursue Sociology..

His accent is not something I struggled with since you get used to it with time. But the man is just too confusing and does not know how to explain the concepts in a clear understanding way. Powerpoints are a mess and terribly edited. Struggled a lot. Such a shame since I was really eager to learn.

Humble compassionate inspirational! He wants to teach you to think critically and not just regurgitate material from textbooks. That is his teaching style - critical thinking. The college makes him use lots of writing on Powerpoints because of his accent, just ignore them, listen and ask for clarification if you can't understand he'll clarify.

Hard to understand both verbally and in written form. The most convoluted syllabus and notes I have ever seen. Honestly, it is just frustrating. I want to learn; he makes it hard.

A brilliant man, whose 220 class at Camosun was the turning point for me and the reason I chose Sociology as a major. An extremely challenging teacher who really personifies the meaning of that term. He will make you think and work hard, but he will change your life if your mind is open and your energies focused.

As a non-soci major, this course was HARD... but great. Worked me ass off. Literally follow his criteria to the dot... and answer directly and clear to the point and you'll do well. Racism is a tough topic to teach, and he keeps it unbias. Do the extra project, if you need marks. Very enlightening guy. Talk to him if you don't understand things.

Very intelligent and passionate guy. Sometimes hard to understand his concepts, but he does that to challenge his students. One of the most challenging courses i've taken in a good way. FOLLOW HIS CRITERIA to the dot. He's all about structure. As a non-soci major, i found it a damn hard course. But he really changed my views. Respect to him.

I thought he was extremely boring and his argueing became annoying but I can definitly say that I learned a lot from the class and don't regret taking it with him. He has some amazing insights that are well worth the hard to understand accent, slacking structure, and "no note taking" attitude.

He has good pedagogy, and is brillant. He is very approachable, and you can't read his mind because he challenges students to think for themselves. I highly recommend this man. You da bomb! I don't like TAs that marked our stuff... but when you get him to mark it.. he is really fair.
