Comment:
If you're taking this course just for completing your degree and having no other options then go for it, you'll pass easily by giving just a little effort but if you're actually trying to enjoy study and learn something then I will not recommend him. Moreover, his classes are very tedious.

Comment:
John's lectures are fantastic but his class as a whole is tougher than any other PHIL 100. His tests are graded far too heavily, you have no direction on what to study and he is not very helpful. The actual grading is completely unfair. I would not recommend John to anyone who would not be willing to take on a challenge.

Comment:
His lectures are extremely boring and hard to follow. He likes to say they we don't know what philosophy is, yet he thinks it's a good idea to ask that question on your first midterm (which by the way, consists of 2 long answer questions). He does not tell you what will be on the midterms or give you any idea about what the questions could be about

I had him for 2 different philosophy courses and it was absolutely wonderful. If you are taking phil 100 for a grade boost, then maybe don't take him, or rather, maybe you should, because University should be about learning. One of the best professors I have had in university thus far!

Comment:
Terrible prof. Made a 100 level philosophy class which most people take as an elective to boost their mark way to difficult. He clearly didn't realize that no one cared about this class and we only focused on one topic throughout the entire semester.

I'd never taken a phil class prior to Marshall's course, and now I am very seriously considering switching majors. His class was thought-provoking, controversial and overwhelming. I couldn't have enjoyed it more. If you are up to the challenge, take one of his courses. This guy is what you've been paying the big bucks for.

Definitely knows what he is talking about, and tries to engage the class as much as he can. You will need a dictionary beside you when reading some of the textbooks, as some words, you have NO idea what they are. Exams are alright; two essay questions to defend your position philosophically. I would take him again
