Comment:
Ian knows his stuff, but for those that say you do not need to attend lecutures are mistaken, exam questions are sometimes based around what he says in his classes and not the notepackage. Also the note packages is outdated, so unless you current year notes do not rely on them. I recommend taking this coure in person, online was more difficult.

Get the note-package and you will do fine! Give yourself lots of time to study, lectures not mandatory because they are literally word for word what he says in class! Exams are medium difficulty, easy if you know your stuff though.

Restall clearly knows his stuff and how to teach it. I would however recommend being fairly caffeinated before his lectures as he has a tendency to speak very fast and rush through the topics, as well as cold call on people. However he is always willing to further discuss the content and gives you a pretty good idea of what the exam(s) entail.

Like others said, get the notes! It's dense material, and it's tough to memorize it in-depth for exams. Don't procrastinate, and stay on top of it. But Ian is funny and makes his lectures interesting! Super respectable man, would recommend

I found the material in the course quite interesting and I myself am not a law student. Ian is a funny guy; he adds stories and some humour when he explains concepts. He also picks people to participate so be ready to be called out. You want visual aid? No visual aid for you. I suggest following the notes package and make your notes from it

One of the absolute best professors that I had the pleasure of having during my degree. His knowledge of the law is immaculate, and he answers any questions willingly and thoroughly. Make sure you get the notes circulating for his class, as they certainly help. I am in Law School now, and can truly say that Ian's course was incredible prep.

Comment:
Overall disappointing, lectures consists of him reading the course package word for word and then has exams based off information not in the course package. Don't listen to his "hints" of what will be in the exam because they're incredibly misleading. Ian is a smart, funny guy, but at Asper grades are important, and you won't help you with that.

Ian prepared me for law school better than any-thing/one I have come across. The pedagogy Ian employs is superior to what you will find in (most) any Canadian law school. Focus on the notes circulating among Comm3300 students, develop your own battle CAN's (condensed annotated notes) you will do well. You are lucky to have access to him as a prof.

Comment:
Ian was a decent prof. I'm not that interested in law so the lectures were bland and studying the material was boring. He doesn't post notes or write on the board so get the notes package and you won't need to go to class, he almost reads right word for word off of it.

Comment:
Commercial Law is a course that should seem a tad intimidating to most students. Restall certainly doesn't discourage that expectation. He challenges his students in class but if you prove to be attentive he demonstrates his appreciation. Use the materials he has on reserve in the library for the exams, as well as the widely dispersed online notes.

He is a great prof if you are prepared to work very hard. If you are looking for a free ride look elsewhere. He does not want to see you fail, I remember when he gave us back our midterms he said for those who may not be back he wished them all really well and to be successful. Definitely never happy to see a student go and warns of difficulty!

Ian Restall was an awesome prof that I learned a lot form. At first the class seems intimidating with no visual aids during class, and a heavily weighted final, but in the end he is a very fair professor. He is also extremely funny and every class would have a good amount of jokes to tell. Overall an awesome professor.

Ian Restall is by far one of the most interesting professors I've taken in Asper. You only have a midterm and final which is intimidating at first, but they are extremely fair. Get the note package and you'll be fine.

Ian is a very interesting and bold personality. I wasen't a huge fan of his teaching method but others didn't seem to mind. No powerpoints or visuals, Ian stands there quickly and orally going tru his teaching material. The course has lots of content and without guidance, I often struggled identifying what I should prioritize studying.

Great guy, awesome professor. A ton of content in the course, so make sure you stay on top of it. The notes package is a must, as the lectures center around it. If you have the notes, don't buy any textbooks. Overall, Restall is a very smart guy with a lot of insight to share. Added benefit if you wish to go into law-- he is great for advice.

Overall a great professor. He seems intimidating at first, but after getting to know him he is very caring and an interesting guy. If you study a week before the final (70%) and midterm (30%) + go to class it will be easy. Make sure you get his note package from a friend.

Initially didn't like this prof. Lectures were hard to follow and notes were extremely hard to copy down. Course slowly got better as it progressed and I found a new appreciation for this prof when I needed his assistance with a personal matter and he was there for me. Make sure to get the summarized textbook notes. They're a must.

Toughest com law prof apparently. Get the online notes from someone (good one has 146 pages), lectures will literally be word for word from those notes. Study the practice questions that should be sent with the notes package. If you don't have any friends with it, go to the CSA Office 144 Drake and someone will. It's all memorization.

very smart. knows what he's talking about. I cant stress this enough, you need his notes if you want to do well. There is simply too much material to get down during class. I bet someone in your class probably has his notes, so go make some friends! Didn't really read the text, his essay, or the constitution book he made us buy. STUDY HIS NOTES!
