I had a mental health crisis and just gave up on everything. He saw me one day outside of class about a week past when our final paper was due. I tried to avoid him and walk past but he asked me what happened. I cried and said I just got behind and figured he wouldn't accept it. He told me to send it in and that he loved my work. Amazing guy!

I loved Professor Malcolmson. He very strongly does not believe in surprises so his quizzes, midterm and exam were fairly straight forward. He will make you work for the mark that you deserve. One thing that stands out about him is that he does not just want his students to succeed in his class, but he helps prepare them to succeed in life.

Definitely lots of reading but the book assigned was phenomenal! Malcolmson made such an impact on my studies and made me want to pursue a major in political science. All of his lectures were well thought out and very, very interesting. He gives you a number of questions before the exams so you know what to expect on them which is super helpful!

Malcolmson was phenomenal. Lectures were interesting and engaging, although he does encourage participation. He's knowledgable on the content, and was more than helpful outside of class. Tests and final were very straightforward, as he doesn't believe in surprising students. A variety of assignments and tests, but always gave clear expectations!

Malcolmson is by far, my favourite poli sci prof at STU - Gives wonderful feedback on papers (Albeit he makes you come to him to pick them up, thereby trapping you for a discussion on your work) and has a friendly demeanour. If you ask for help, provided it's not something absurd, he's likely to lend a hand. Additionally: He's rather funny.

Malcolmson is incredibly engaging, helpful, and kind. No issues whatsoever, and he knows American Politics well. I'd definitely recommend this class to anyone who thinks they know anything about US politics. He'll show you that you don't, and you'll love it.

Professor Malcolmson is an outstanding professor. He is extremely helpful and approachable. He is also very clear in breaking down and analyzing Plato, while also engaging the class. Readings are fairly heavy due to the nature of the subject, but if you attend class and do the readings, you will do well.

Phenomenal professor. My first thoughts in the class were "I'm only here because I need the credits. This class is going to be a huge pain, just another old guy droning on about Plato and I'll spend the semester reading sparknotes." By the third class I was completely engrossed in the texts and the lectures, highly, highly recommend this class.

Easily one of the very best Professors I have EVER had. On the surface his lectures seem somewhat dry, but then it dawns on you how he reveals layer after of layer of nuance on the material he is discussing. Breaks down Plato in an understandable and engaging way. Students wait to pack up their bags until he is done talking, just to listen

Dr. Malcolmson has given the example before as being like a doctor and his students being like patients, and how just like no doctor wants to see their patients die, he does not want to see his students fail. The material can be difficult but Dr. Malcolmson explains everything in full details with good examples. He is an amazing professor, high rec

Amazing professor- get ready to read though. For someone who mildly dreaded taking classical pols philosophy, he was engaged and always willing to help. Do not take as an elective or you will find yourself bogged down with his 4-7 book expectation.

Malcomson - A great prof, but prepare to read. A lot. Seriously, if you don't like the proposition of reading 4-7 books in a semester, don't take this course. Apart from the reading though, his class is fairly easy. He explains all topics in great detail, and gives excellent feedback on work (Albeit he makes you pick it up in person, in his office)

This isn't an easy class. Your readings are your life. The quizzes, if you do the readings, are straight-forward. Patrick is always there to help students. He is friendly and will go above and beyond to help you. If you put in an effort so will he. Do not take his course as an elective. He is an amazing educator, and I recommend him highly.

This man is brilliant. He KNOWS what he's talking about, and it's incredible how passionate he is! But I better warn you, you CANNOT rely just on natural wit in his class. You gotta live, and BREATHE the stuff he gives you to study. Otherwise, you're digging your own grave. If you pull through though, you'll thank yourself in the end. I promise.

Along with Model UN, Classical Political Philosophy with Malcolmson was the best experience in my four years at STU. I learned more from studying the Republic with him than I have in any other class.

Malcolmson is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes the class interesting and goes above and beyond for his students. My interest in politics before taking his class was low but he has a passion that just makes you want to learn. I would recommend him, best decision you'll ever make for your GPA.

He will force you to work REALLY hard, but he will reward you. He is passionate about the subject matter and works to accommodate all students through different teaching techniques. I had no intention of studying Political Science but chose to double major in it because of him. Thanks Dr Malcolmson "All you know is that you don't know much at all"

Malcolmson has a reputation for being one of the best professors at STU, honestly though I was disappointed. He isn't even the best professor in the political science department. He is difficult to understand, demands much more than any professor I've had from a second year course. He should stick to practical and not theoretical political science.
